LA RIOTS

Electronic music has found a new hub in Los Angeles in the form of DJ duo Jo’B and Daniel Ledisko, better known as LA Riots. Taking their moniker from the infamous riots that blazed across the city in 1992, LA Riots has quickly established themselves at the forefront of the electronic music scene – DJ’ing high profile clubs and events across the country and churning out club bangers that have caught the ear of audiences and artists alike.
Having recently remixed such artists as Scanners, Le Castlevania, Mystery Jets, Chromeo, Jupiter One, Photek and Justice, LA Riots has been tearing up the highly fickle music blogosphere and is quickly gaining momentum within the mainstream music industry as well. Up next, expect to see further remixes of such acts as Datarock, Kid Sister and The Cure.
Individually, both Jo’B and Daniel Ledisko have been heavily involved in the electronic music scene since the mid 90’s. It is from their varied backgrounds that LA Riots have honed their craft, delivering an explosive sound that has taken over clubs from Los Angeles to New York and across the world. As the electronic genre continues to take shape and evolve, expect to see LA Riots there alongside it – bringing their unique energy to the masses and setting dancefloors on fire.
JOAKIM (VERSATILE / PARIS)

Dubbed the Godfather of French Electro by I-D magazine, Joakim is heading to Australia for the first time to take over the Future Classic Label Night in November. Considered to be royalty of the French electronic music scene, Joakim’s diverse and trendsetting musical tastes have earned him a global reputation.
With a background in classical piano, it took a school-friend leaving a synthesiser in Joakim’s bedroom to lead him astray into the world of electronic music. As a result, the Parisian is hard to pin down - part club, part jazz, part indie, and part experimentalism, with DJ sets that explode!
Joakim’s solo works are some of the most extraordinarily forward-thinking in dance music - from his debut album Tiger Sushi (Future Talk), to the sleeper modern classic Fantômes (Versatile), to last year’s Monsters and Silly Songs (Versatile/!K7) an album recorded with his live band which garnered praise from taste-makers around the world. He’s also had tracks featured on compilations including Life Beyond Mars: Bowie Covered’ (Rapster Records), Kitsuné Maison 2 and Groove Armada’s Late Night Tales.
Joakim is a major figure on the modern global music scene. Founding the Tigersushi label in 2003, he has emerged as the French producer du jour, both for his own work and the likes of Poni Hoax, My Sister Klaus and Panico. A man of many talents, he even does the artwork for his own releases!
In between all this he still finds time to turn in floor filling remixes for everyone from chart darlings Simian Mobile Disco, Annie, Tiga and Air to Australia’s own Cut Copy and Severed Heads. He’s also turned in mixes for the hugely popular NYC radio program Beats In Space, as well as curating a compilation for Parisian boutique Colette. Even Disney wants a piece of Joakim, having commissioned him to rework parts of the soundtrack to cult sci-fi film Tron.
Constantly in demand for his production and remix skills, Joakim has released on the cream of international labels including Versatile, Tigersushi, Ed Banger, DFA, Wichita, Permanent Vacation, Playhouse, Parlophone, Pokerflat, Kitsune, Crosstown Rebels, !K7, Astralwerks, Get Physical, Modular, Lo Recordings and Ghostly International to name a few. Of course, there has been no shortage of those wanting to lend their touch to his work, with Tim Goldsworthy (DFA) and MANDY (Get Physical) among those keen to remix Joakim’s originals.
Some essential listening to familiarise yourself with Joakim’s brilliance would have to include his original tracks ‘Lonely Hearts’ and ‘I Wish You Were Gone’ (Versatile), as well as his reworks of Antena’s ‘Camino Del Sol’ (Permanent Vacation), Gucci Soundsystem’s ‘A Carpenter’ (DFA) and Principles of Geometry & Sébastien Tellier’s ‘A Mountain for President’ (Tigersushi)… a must-have which featured in many DJs’ top tracks of last year. Joakim’s most recent remix, a reworking of his countryman DJ Mehdi’s ‘Pocket Piano’ (Ed Banger) has already got DJs around the world talking and looks set to be another dancefloor hit.
With a brand new remix album around the corner and his next artist album due in 2009, this is your chance to catch this French electro-jazz-mutant-disco hero and master of eclecticism on his maiden
