A recent InTheMix review of the Purple Sneaker crew went a little something like this;

““Those Purple Sneaker cats can really fucking mix, especially since they’re playing songs without the obligatory thirty-two bar intros and not just drop-mixing like other mash up-style crews do.”

And they weren’t happy with just pulling monster 800+ crowds every week at Australia’s longest-running indie club night either, so they’re embarking on a national tour and taking their indie/mash up sound across the nation. Limelite is proud to present Purple Sneaker DJs – Friday July 31.

Main man PhDJ will be leading the charge on the tour, playing alongside Talkie, Ben Lucid, Nick Findlay and M.I.T. They’re a crew that have provided support DJ for the likes of Lily Allen, Ian Brown and The Presets as well as performing to massive crowds at festivals like Splendour in Grass, Big Day Out, Field Day, Good Vibrations, Parklife and loads more. So where do their music influence come from? “Everything.  Everything. I mean it! Party shit from every era ever known to humankind say PhDJ… Try everything from late 50s pop, 60s mod and British invasion stuff, to 80s hardcore punk and hip hop. Add some early 90s US indie-chick rock, some more British indie, a dash of Baile funk, some Baltimore, and anything else that’ll make the peeps dance all night. And I am most definitely influenced by music produced by local Australian acts right now”

It’s far from the first time they’ve ventured out of their hometown of Sydney, but it’ll make for their most extensive national tour yet.  According to the Purple Sneaker crew however; “they are out to prove that they really can f&*king mix!!”
