Wow.. this was one of the best parties of the year.. With an uncomparable venue and wicked DJ's. Space DJs were first to feature the night, this had to be seen to be believed.. wicked scratching with really really fast mixes.. Everyone loved it, the quick pace and quick mixes, making it an exciting 4 deck set.

Then it was Olivers turn on the decks, Oliver was very sick. That is why he played at 3 instead of 12. He was throwing up all evening and actually had to run off the stage once during his set. As it was we were very lucky he actually played at all. And he said that he wasn't up to playing live, so he kept it simple and just mixed. But he did an excellent job, with 101% commitment with pulling off the tightest mixes with bangin techno/driving trance, cheers and screams from the crowd throughout the 3 hours.. Great crowd response throughout the night to all of the DJ's. Caught a glimpse of Derrick Carter, who played a Chicago house set, house roomed loved it.

The promoters definitely out done themselves with this one, with both the rooms having wicked sound/lighting, chillout was the best I'v seen, and the venue, an art gallery.. Respect to the Delirium & Nexus undoubtedly the best promoters in WA.

ROB FENDER - HAVOC
GREG PACKER

Tickets: $5
Venue: 30min from Perth. Released on the night @ DC's or Shell Service Station on Thomas Rd. (end of Kwinana freeway) from 6-8pm.

Wicked venue, a massive filed in the middle of nowhere (Baldivis). The laser/lighting looked wicked beaming up and around. The sound lacked though, with the speakers really distorting at times. There was around 200 people max, I think it would have been a bit far for most people, perhaps a bit too much cheddar happy played at the night, but never the less, respect to the promoters for managing to setup an outdoor party, has potentially for future, bigger events.

Vibealite After a mad rush of people grabbing maps and walking to the venue people got settled and sussed out the venue. Which wasnt too bad :) Early on in the night some good sets being played with Greg Packer playing a good jungle set which was a relief from the hardcore for a bit. The main man: SY!!!@@@## He lived up to most of our expectations although some more scratching woulda been awesome. The crowd loved it! Rumours has that Sy loved the all ages crowd "he felt the vibe".The night wound on well with a choice set from hutcho. Kev came on and played a mad happy hardcore set with freestyle closing the night! And a mention that some mad mc ing during kev and freestyles set by a crowd member! Nice one peter! All in all we saw the lights and we are still feeling the vibe! Respect out to the WHITE GLOVE KREW (you know who you are)! And Jamies Bunnies!

At the end of his set throwing out a hole heap of records to the crowd. Was a great night! Sound, Venue, tunes were wicked, only complaint would have to be the overcrowding (but better that then the other way I guess). Respect EMAS!

DJ NOISE

29th Aug '98

Dj Noise from Denmark, the winner of the 1996 DMC world and current holder of the Superman Inc, Battle for Wold Supremecy, will be in Perth to showand prove his amazin' skills.

Featuring:
DJ NOISE

Support:
DAN THE MAN - ROYCE
BILLSBY - KID NAPPS
MC SKANK

Tickets: $15 presale, $20 door
Venue: Redheads dance bar.

A good night? Undoubtedly! We came to the Fat Fluid party to see the 96 World DMC champion and the 94 NMS Superman Battle for World Supremacy Champion (and personally, my favourite hip hop DJ in the world!) Noize flex his skills on the turntables. We were not disappointed.

As 12:30 approached and the tall, skinny frame of the Dane everyone had come to see made its way behind the turntables, a crowd started to form in front of the decks in eager anticipation of Noize's battle display. The Perth crowd knew they were in for a treat as Noize warmed up with a series of flare and crab scratches over the preceding DJ's records.

After an introduction by the compere, Noize got under way, and what followed was 15 minutes of the most intense turntable based entertainment that Perth had ever witnessed. It's one thing to see a DJ mix on a video, but being there live and witnessing crowd response just takes it to another level, especially if it's someone like Noize. Flawless juggles, intricate scratch routines and the cheeky use of cut up hip hop lyrics were all combined in one dazzling display of turntable wizardry. The ear to ear smiles, hollering and thunderous applause never stopped throughout his 15 minute display, the highlight being a routine involving a beat record calling out numbers starting at one and finishing at ten and Noize cutting up with a different scratch (transforms, flutters, echos, crabs, etc) in between each one. The best thing was that Noize seemed to really enjoy himself and kept that smile on his face the whole time he played.

At the end of his set, he copped large props from the audience and everyone else (DJs, security) who had gathered around to witness his demo. He then went on to produce an encore set that was just as well received as the first! Another great thing about Noize (together with his turntable skills) was his attitude. He grabbed the mic and told everyone he was an ordinary person like everyone there at the party and that he was honoured to play in Perth, then he announced that he was going to play some records and told everyone to just have a party!

Then as Noize proceeded to play tracks, everyone got down and did their thing, a B-Boys comp was taking place on the hallowed square of lino while others danced on (not surprisingly) the dancefloor. Half way through his set, a freestyle session took place with local MCs stepping up and flexing on the mic. By the time we had left there were still a few hanger-ons that kept on grooving to the sounds Dan the Man was supplying after Noize handed control of the Technics to him.

All in all, a brilliant night well worth the sixteen dollars for the ticket to see my favourite DJ play live - and he played one of the best sets I've ever seen or heard him do! Well done to Fat Fluid for putting the man on and let's hope this isn't the last time Noize (or any other reputable hip hop DJ) graces our windy city!

Thanks Max!

TWISTED

22nd Aug '98

Given the lack of large hardcore events this year, Choice Promotions have decided to bring you an event which will be long remembered, Featuring two arenas of wicked vibes with something to soothe everyones tastes, young or old. How many weekends have past by this year with nothing to do and nowhere to go? Well no longer!

M-ZONE
He's has been one of the UK's Leading Trance & Techno DJs for the past few years. He'll play two sets, one will showcase the sound of the future and the other will encompass the sounds of the past.. From "The Golden era of raving".

ANGU$
Brisbane Dj Angu$ is one of Australias most respected and talented Dj's. He will take us on a trip back down memory lane as we witness hiw own style of old skool, played as only he knows how.

ARENA 1
Featuring the sounds of the future, Trancecore, Breakbeat and Uplifting bangin vibes. This will be an upfront arena and is an all ages zone, one for the whistle crew.

M-ZONE(UK) - ANGU$ (BRIS)
DUTCHY - GREG PACKER
HUTCHO - KEVIN
METAL - ROB FENDER

MC's:
SENSE - INTERJECTA

ARENA 2
Licensed for over 18's and programmed musically to spoil those who remember. This arena features a mix of both Old Sckool classics ass well as Trance and Techno. One for the Perth original massive.

M-ZONE(UK) - ANGU$ (BRIS)
CORRUPTION - GREG PACKER
HUTCHO - KEVIN
KREICE - SPLINK-E

MC's:
KEV - PREACHER

Tickets: $25 until the 9th Aug, thereafter $30
Venue: Gilkinson Dance Studios, Hay St Perth (Near Firestation).

Excellent party had by all, excellent venue, good music and wicked vibe. Arrived during Dutchy set, who played a harder set then usual, then Hutcho with his own mix of hardcore. Whilst MARK-NRG just kicked his trance set off up stairs, M-Zone played downstairs with a trancecore set, at this point, both upstairs & down were very full (the line outside went right around the building).

Greg Packer had a mad set, playing his own techstep/jumpup style the way only he can, working in the crowd, with Kev following. Packer & Hutcho played back to back, with the upstairs turntables facing away from the crowd, Was hard to follow the action upstairs & down. But was a very good night, only complaint would be the STRICT security, to the point of where they were confiscating laser pens.

Pictures from Twisted.

COVERT OPERATION

14th Aug '98

Featuring:
GREG PACKER - HUTCHO
ROB FENDER - KARNAGE
KEV - HAVOC
BLACKOUT - MIKEKOLA
DUTCHY

Tickets: $5 Venue: The Jackal (upstairs).
Broadcasted live on the net.

Got to the Jackal around eleven thirty to see the place kind of empty. Mr. Karnage was finishing off his set before Mikekola and Hutcho stepped up and played some records. Rob Fender followed, paving the way for the hallowed Dutchy to grace the turntables with his presence. The Vermin Crew's very own Kevin was set to play at around two thirty before I decided to pack up and jump in the Magna for the drive home - would have liked to have stuck around to check out Blackout's set but the idea of jumping into a warm bed was too appealing. The place started to fill out towards the end of the night and there were a handful of people dancing about at various points during the night. Personal highlight of the night was taking to a poster on the wall with an artliner and aesthetically modifying (and adding our own) meanings and connotations to the text already there. Personal gripe (and this is a personal opinion so if you don't like it please email me and we can discuss it) was that for a night covering the broad musical spectrum, all i heard was jungle and happy hard/trancecore orinetated stuff. Was expecting some hip hop or electro, but I suppose sticking around for a whopping three hours will limit what you get to hear. Hope to see more events like these popping up and getting tuned into by the netheads of Perth.

Thanx to MAX

His set took in a wide range of the disparate elements of jungle, starting with jazzular textures following through to hardstep uppercut. Technically proficient, Grooverider was obviously concentrating on the crowd and his selection, a selection that could be described as dark, without being foreboding, and always in touch with the flailing limbs of the people who really matter.

MC's: I-ROCK - VIPER
BRENNOX - SENSE - PREACHER

Tickets: $6 before 11:30, then $9.
Venue: Gravity.

This was a wicked night; with a wide variety of styles and not too much of just one style. With Packer and JJ going back to back with a triphop/drum 'n base set, just starting the ball rolling. Then Rob stepped up with a mad trancore set. Then we came on, playing the first hardcore of the night, making the crowd go berzerk, the set was made very interesting when a couple on the dance floor started making out, Kev sending a shoutout "To the guy getting head", later being asked to leave. We finished our set with a 240bmp track making the crowd hurt.

Then Dutchy with happy hard, Fanatik having a kool set playing a mixture of jungle and hardcore well done boys!. Then it was Kev and Leroy with happy/oldkool, really playing the tunes the crowd wanted.. This was a good night with Gravity being full most the night. Big shoutout to Kev and Hutcho for a wicked party and giving us the opportunity to play, goodluck to Kev for the trip over.

PLASTIK

6th Mar '98

Featuring:
RICHIE HAWTIN
He is one of the most pivotal Dj's and producers in the world of techno today. Most recently Richie Hawtin repositioned the goal-posts with his amazing Concept series on PLUS-8 and his most recent Plastikman single "Sickness" was testament to his unerring commitment to experimental techno.

Supports:
MRW - PUFF
TROY

Tickets: $24+BF
Venue: upstairs @ JACKAL nightclub

Well the plastikman returns to Perth again to deliver his tweaky minimal style.

We arrived at 11 to hear Puff playing a fairly minimal set even by his standards, at this stage the place was quite empty which left me wondering how many people would turn up? I was disheartened to learn that hawtins kit (eg records, drum machines) had been lost in baggage during his flight from melbourne and he possibly wouldn't be playing (damn plebs.) Well it turned out MRW was nice enuff to lend his records to hawtin and chase up some drum machines for him. It was Richie's turn to play at about 1:30 and he didn't dissapoint, immediately he launched into his trademark banging minimal style performing some sick drum programming and acid riffs over many of the tracks absolutely screwing with people's heads (highlight of the night was when he played spastik!!.) Was also impressed by Richie's down to earth attitude , hanging around and answering questions and signing people's autographs for up to an hour after his set.

My only gripes of the night were -

  • overcrowding of the venue
  • expensive drink prices

But all in all it was a wicked night and I hope Perth is to see more DJs of his quality in the future.

This event is set to be massive, one of the biggest Perth's seen in ages, and now with the wicked venue, I'm really looking forward to it. Its a bit of travel for the Perth people, but its not bad for us (10mins). Hope to cyas all there in full force!

I'v been there today! and it looks wicked! with 5 BIG white tents, on a BIG field. The crew have been setting it up since Wednesday, so theres going to be alot of detail and suprizes, big up all the promoters!

Tickets: $45+BF up to and including 6 Feb, thereafter $55.
Venue: Frontrunner Turf Farm, 157 Paganomi Road, Karnup.

Map to the Venue and Venue Layout.

To anyone who missed this event, how can you forgive yourself! This event will be talked about for years to come, and will never be forgotten. As we got there, it looked like the royal show, with amusment rides, big arse beams scanning the night, and glowing tents. As we qued to get in, the security was fetishly strict, making the males empty their pockets, checking wallets and cigarette packets, but as females don't do anything bad they bypassed them ;).

We got in the hardcore tent, the sound and lighting was ok, considering they had to get gear for 5 tents. Kev was on the decks ripping it up, whilst it seemed like most the people where just wondering around checking out the massive setup and thinking "fark this is gonna be wicked".

Then it was Rob fender with the trancore at around 10, and more people started to settle into the hardcore tent. Hixxy took over, and was welcomed by a VERY loud crowd. He played a happy set really working us up into a hype, and as the tent filled the temperature rose and the grass was burnt brown. Greg packer took over the decks with the outstanding quality of which we expect from him, playing a wicked jungle set, with faultless mixing. Scott Brown was up next, with a heart-felt pumping welcome like i haven't heard for a while. He played a hard hitting set, with no cheese; exactly what the crowd wanted and the tent was full to the brim. Scott was having a wicked time, he seemed to be very suprised by the amount of people in the tent and the noise the 2000+ strong crowd was making. Then MC Kev announced that the authorities wanted to close at 3, and that we only had 15mins of hardcore raving left. Anyone sitting down got up, and as everyone was going off, the other tents noticed the noize and nrg and alot of them joined us in the frantik last minutes of the night.

The party was everything and more we expected, pitty about the early close, and jacen and hutcho missing out, but most people were still buzzing from Scott Brown's set. Big Up to all the Promoters, especially Vermin Crew & Teknology Corps and most of all the ravers for providing the wicked atmosphere and vibe. Check the Pics out.

Anyone want to contribute how the other tents went?

This party was the place to be NYE! We arrived at 11, and Dj Dance was playing some house/garage, then with not much to go till 12, Hutcho stepped up with some oldskool anthems, the place was packed, and when it struck 12 the place went wild, with horns and whistles defening the eardrums. Then it was Packer with the oldskool, his set going of like usual. Kev had a wicked set with some wicked mixing throughout his set. Kev really worked the crowd and gave them want they wanted. Overall this party was a wicked party to welcome '98, only complaint would be the sound system wasn't that great, but hay! Respect out to Teknology Corps, Vermin Crew!
Watch out for the STINGIN THE TAIL pictures!
