science fiction was the biggest dance party in perth, with over 10,000 people, and
a wicked lineup it was always going to be big.
the
crowd turned up early ready to party, once in you were lost in a maze of
escalators, stairs and rooms, the vibe was right, everyone was there to
party hard, with not too much concern of any bugs..
the 4 room selection, meant everyone was not in one room for too long
and the huge crowd moved around alot, the countdown was approaching, dj heaven
in the main room blasting away on a trancier tip,
with atleast 5000 people going hard, the countdown started
with dj heaven introducing the countdown on the mic.. 4, 3 , 2..1 bang..
the place exploded with euphoria, the place in a sea of hugs
and kisses, with all that over, it was really time to dance..
the plastik room was brutal, with no signs of slowing down, dj's christian smith and
joel mull doing the marathon 6 hour assault. top floor drum'n'bass had
the action also, with the first ever isdn link perth has witnesses of doc scott, who let down
some rolling drum 'n' bass, with the mc's providing the lyrical hype, all images
from within was shown on the 4 massive projections screens outside with mad
visual effects.
the internationals rained down, djs laidback, heaven, ian pooley,
christian smith, joel mull, groove armada and doc scott, all
showing why they were chosen. 5am, the sun quickly
popped up and the venue filled with golden rays, which fueled the massive
crowds even more.. some opted to chillout on the grand stand, and grass over looking the city.
the closing hours, a mix of people still fueled with adrenaline, and those
recovering.. the fuel bar was a popular chill space to come to grips with
reality and 2000.
much respect to all the promoters involved, what better way to see in the
new millennium..

xs2000
friday 31st december '99 nye
xs promotions is proud to present the end of an era and the beginnings of a
new millennium. join perth's finest hardcore, old school, drum 'n' bass and trance
dj's as they celebrate in style and bring to you the party of year xs 2000.
featuring:
kevin matt dec rhino vs mental leroy menis |
freestyle hutcho dair spinke
|
mc's: assasin, sense & kronic
tickets: $29+bf up to and incl 12th Dec, then $35+bf
venue: helenic centre - 75 stirling st, perth.
We got there at about 9.30pm to the sounds of the fast emerging and very
talented DJ Dair playing a good solid selection of 96/97 style happy hardcore
tunes. One of the first things that struck me was the new interior design of
the Hellenic Centre. For so long this venue has been regarded as the last
resort for desperate promoters who's other options have evapourated. No more.
The venue now looks awesome, with the new entrance, balcony overlooking the
dancefloor, new bar and all round improved feel to it.
Just after 10pm, I DJ'd. I'd promised myself that I'd try and fit in a tune
from each year of the nineties (and attempt to mix them), and I think I managed
to do so. My set contained the full spectrum from 1990's "Together" by Hardcore
Uproar, "Sweet Harmony" by Liquid through to newer favourites like "Heart of
Gold" by Force and Styles and one of the biggest tunes of 1999 "Give Me a
Reason" by Bang.
Next up at 11pm was the ever reliable Hutcho, playing a selection of hardcore
classics from 92 & 93. As it got closer to midnight, he picked up the pace and
dropped a few quicker and harder tunes. He finished his set with a bangin' tune
on the OTT label which if anyone has heard the Grooverider tape from Adelaide in
94 will surely remember (yes all junglists, even Grooverider used to play
Hardcore).
As the clock ticked down, the sparklers were lit and the atmosphere seemed to
reach boiling point. With roughly 5-600 people squeezed into the venue as the
clock ticked over for the dawn of the new Millenium, DJ Freestyle dropped
"Shining Down" by Force & Styles as the first tune of 2000.
As usual after midnight, the crowd thinned a little as everyone wished each
other a Happy New Year, but this certainly was a good party. The lighting was
adaquate as was the sound, the lasers were a nice touch but most impressive was
the re furbishment of the venue. Hopefully there will be a few more parties
there in the future.
Well if this event is anything to go by, all the doom-makers who are predicting
2000 as the year in which Hadrcore will die had better take note. This is only
the beginning.

hardboiled & resin crew unite
sunday 12th december '99 6pm till 10.30pm
The perfect end to the weekend, after the Glory in true Hardboiled style.
featuring:
greg packer kevin |
hutcho skelly |
tickets: free entry and $3 pints 6-7.
venue: Scallywags Bar: Reid Prom, Joondalup.
After a speedy drive up the Freeway post Glory, I finally made it to Scallywag's
in Joondalup at about 7.45pm. Greg Packer was into the final quarter of his
classic 92 style set which had the already building crowd bubbling. After a
quick trip to the bar, I was next on the decks at 8pm. To be honest I was a
little bit sceptical about playing all-out 'cheese' in this predominantly drum
'n' bass stronghold. However the sight of more than a few familiar raving faces
in the crowd allayed my fears slightly. I played pretty much a mixture of
newish and anthemic happy hardcore with a few classics thrown in for good
measure. To my relief, this seemed to work particularly well, especially
considering that this was a Sunday night. At about 9pm, it was time to hand
over the decks to the eternally capped, bearded wonder, Hutcho. He set about
delving into the deep archives of his collection and delivered a set of 92/93
style dark tinged breakbeat of the variety, that rarely sees light in this day
and age. The tunes kept rolling, and the crowd continued to enjoy itself,
making the most of the more than ample selection of beers and pool tables inside
this intimate pub venue. Skelly then took control on the decks and brought the
night to a close with his trance flavoured hardcore in the Bonkers mould. All
in all it was a good night, with an up-for-it crowd, who appeared scarcely aware
that it was a Sunday night. As a result, the Scallywags management have asked
us to do a regular once a month hardcore night on a Sunday. Stay tuned for
further info. Shouts to Beechboro Boys, Ballawood Massive regular Resin Crew
and all those who supported the night. Also special mentions to MC 's Ruffkut

adam and cari will also incorporate a freestyle battle.

this was one for the hard techno crew.. and it didn't dissapoint a soul. mrw warmed up the
decks for adam beyer who played an 2-3 hour thumpin hard techno set, showing
why he's considered swedens jeff mills: clever mixing, excellent selection. then
cari lekebuschs replacement (due to pneumonia) - dj gaetek from italy. certainly a great substitute
he runs design/art/conform records, unlike cari in his selection, nothing
close to funky, but hard and bangin. playing till the early morning when it
was adam's turn for round 2 of his techno assault finishing of the night in
style.

Was an interesting night, pity it wasn't up to what was promised. The
hardcore marquee that was suposed to be out in the carpark, turned out to be
a small tent in a backyard! The sound system in the hardcore arena was also
terrible, the levels kept fluxuating etc. The club arena on the other hand
was really good and well presented. One interesting note to make was the
fact that there was no MC's and this was quite noticable. Musically the
event was good, and I was quite happy with the music in both arenas,
especially in the club room where I heard so many favourite tracks from Beat
Dis - Bomb The Bass to Nasty - Sy-Kick. Slipmatt was a disapointment to most
people. He started off his set at 5am with some 96ish classic house such as
Hideaway - Delacy, Magic Carpet Ride - Mighty Dub Katz and Real Vibration -
Express of Sound. A lot of people were shocked at this (including myself) as
we were all expecting him to play his usual set of the worn out old skool
tracks such as Don't Go and so on. But I was still happy with the tracks.
Thirty mins later, Slipmatt started to play old skool we were expecting.
Again he played the obvious tracks, and repeated a lot of his mixes that he
has done before. If anyone has the Eclipse CD you will know what I mean. In
the 2nd hour of his set he did play a couple of tracks that I haven't heard
in a while like Shock The Beat - Electric Choc and Rabbit City #1. At 7am he
was supposed to finish, but the crowd wouldn't let go and played some hard
house until 7:30am. Overall, it wasn't worth the $27.

this year we're going all out to provide you with the most visually spectacular
pines yet. Heaps of intelligent lighting, scans, warps, magic moons, strobes
and the aurora vortex laser.
tickets: free entry, donations accepted.
venue: the venue is the northern forrest.
maps: outside greenwich 8.30-9.30pm on the night.
Whoa.....this was the place too be! Fucken wicked night all around..After
nearly being involved in a car crash( TIP:do not attempt a 3 point turn in
the middle of a busy road), car troubles( TIP: if map says "don't take this
road as you WILL get bogged",they mean it) and getting lost because of
playing follow the leader with people trying to find the location, I
arrived there at about 11pm.
As I was making my trek down the gravel path I could see the lights and
lasers and music getting pumped and I had a feeling this was going to be a
wicked night. Once at the venue I could see a solid crowd getting bigger
and bigger every minute. The dance area was small at this time with most
people sitting down. House was being played at this time then turning back
to some psychidelic trance then back to the house. As time got on I could
see more people flocking in.
The decorations of the venue was very wicked. Lasers were being shone to
the trees which created an intelligent visual effect. With the surrounding
of a forest added with lasers it was a scene to be seen. Fire dancers were
in the background which drew a crowd. Best of all this event was free with
decorations and lighting being better then some of the events I have
attended. Every 10 minutes or so a cool breeze would come and give the
people stomping hard some relief.
At about 12 a certain dj came on and started playing drumb n bass. This was
when the dance area was getting really packed. People were stomping hard
and fast.
At about 2am the music I had been waiting for was being pumped up, GOA.
Everyone I could see was stomping hard and fast appreciating the GOA trance
that hardly gets any play time in the warehouse/club raves. Goa was being
pumped for the rest of the night with the dance area rammed pack solid.
Day light had set upon us and still there was a solid crowd stomping away.
It was funny to see all the people with dirt on their face and clothes
because of the dirt that was on the ground.
This was a wicked event and hopefully more to come. Shouts out to Finnie,
Kate, Matt, Alan,Tim,Brad,Greg, Paul, Alicia, Emily, Lotay, Francis and all
the people who attended. A big shout out to the Pines crew(i was gonna
donate some money but couldn't find the box) and hope to see everyone at
Gathering of the Gods.

The biggest event in Perth history, with 7,200 people this made for a
MAD mega-party. The atmosphere throughout the whole night was electric,
with the main room being the place to be. All the international DJ's had
excellent sets, especially Tall Paul who really got the massive crowd
going with some slightly more commercial tunes. Looking over the sea of
heads in the main room, was a wicked rush, especially when the beats droped
and 6000 up-for-it people went wild. Wicked venue, with escalators scattered
throughtout, with a wicked outdoor chillout overlooking the river to the city,
plus 2 massive projections screens that warped and mixed
all the action. The night finished late morning with alteast 3000 people left
standing. Much respect to all the people involved!

Arriving early, there were probably more people out on the street than
inside the venue. But by 11pm the dance floor was slowly crowding. It was
my 1st time at Gilkenson's. The lighting was amazing (Although they
over-did the strobe abit later on in the night, it was doin' a few peoples
heads in). Several huge mirror balls and a projector screen showing tripy
graphics hung from the ceiling (which entertained those who preferred to sit
in the balcony rather than dance).
95% of the crowd were on their feet goin' mental through the whole of
Aphrodite's set! Every time i got tired and went to sit down he'd start to
mix in another classic and i'd have to jump up again! He played a diverse
range of dnb, starting off with some jazzy trax and finishing with more
hip-hop style dnb.
Around 3:45 the bass speakers in the sound system died for some reason. I
left at the end of Aphrodite, just as Packer started his set with dubplate
pressure (I know! I can't believe I left either!). So I assume the rest of
the night would have sound pretty "tinny" due to the speakers fucking up.
But What I was there for was excellent! Great Venue! Great Crowd! Great
Music! Great Night!!!

well, i wish i could say bassik training was a big hit
and that a regular hardcore thing at the red sea would
be on the cards but i cant..
even a whole load of advertising didn't help with a
pretty small turnout.. the weather was against us too
it looks like as well with a pretty dismal amount of
rain pouring over the city.
anyways.. thanks to everyone who made the effort to
come out for a night of free hardcore.. great sets by
everyone and it was great meeting a whole load of
people and hanging out..

wild and lethal it definatly was, with a totally different concept in clubbing
with a fashion parade and live bands causing a massive cross over element of
people. breaks and hip hop was the flavour for the front room, with the
basement area delving into soulful and vocal house. a much anticipated parade
kicked off with large projection screens and music, adding to the already
eye catching catwalk. chez damier played in the basement to a dedicated
crowd up for some vocal chicago house. nice venue, good vibe and once more

I arrived just after

the decks with some wicked cheesy choonz and again of coarse TIMEBOMB! I did hear
Rob Fender's wicked oldskool set from outside and no disrespect to him but I was tooo fukd to contribute to the massive
crowd. But the venue ruined it for me and many others, as it was far tooo small for such a big crowd, apparently that place can
only fit around 200 people and there was well over 700 people easy. So I hope asylum group's next event will be planed a little
better.

the whole room. Festivities kicked off early with fine sets from Stateside
residents Dave Jackson, Rudy, Dan the Man and Declan before Sydney DJ Jon
Hardy stepped up the pace. It was not long before the man everyone had come
to see had arrived ...... Derrick Carter ....... Carter let loose with an
absolutely power display that travelled the full gamut of rich house music,
with tinklings of electro and some extremely creative use of accapellas and
the jazz track from the original Star Wars movie .... all in all a smokin
set of party house music well received by the masses. Also a special

Despite being located slightly away from the hub of the nightclubbing
district, last Saturday nights Wax Off gig in East Perth saw
a steady crowd of up for it ravers. Having a more underground feel
being held in a warehouse was a welcome change from the usual
plethora of parties being hosted in upmarket nightclubs of late.
The line-up of well known local dj's rocked it into the early hours
with a range of styles from Happy Hardcore through to acid and
backed with a good mix of breakbeats. All up a popular night which
backs the necessity of more all age gigs being held for the current

this weekend!!! make sure you get your tickets as soon as possible,
this event will be huge! atom one will feature many
of australia's top performers, each representing there respective style.
this will be one massive party, set at wa's number one rave
venue the embassy ballroom.
atom one has too many features to list, so if you don't have the
flyer yet, get it now!!! tickets are going fast, and central station has
stated that this event has sold more pre-sale tickets than any other event
for a long while.
teknoscape has informed us that the event has had no expense spared,
and the decor and setup will have to be seen to be believed. havent got
your tickets yet?? what are you waiting for, this is the event not to be
missed! to every one else, see ya there!!!
wow, this was it, with tickets selling out well in advance, everyone
knew this would be big. the short notice of a venue change didn't seem to
put a damper on the event, since the venue was a wicked
hanger/warehouse style hall. the night began early, with the floor space
gaining more people each minute, by 10pm, the venue was already quite
full. the outside courtyard was wrapped with bubble wrap and air condition ducting. the chairs and tables section had a good view of
all of the funny specticles happening on the bouncy castle.
paul holden was the first feature to hit the decks, with some stomping
happy hardcore. greg packer was next with the much awaited for
upfront drum+bass set, greg scratched/mixed it up with some of his
newest tunes. violation was up next, with happy, then hardcore, the
atom one anthem being a hot drum+bass tune. matt+kayla took over the
controls with their mad back to back combo. at this point the venue
had reached its capacity with 1,700 people ramming inside, and in the
courtyard. matt and kayla where one of the peoples favourites and are
sure to be back soon. oldskool was the next flavour, whipped up by
one of perths masters, greg packer. classics being played, with every
track greg got the loudest noise of the night. mrw+puff took us for
a bangin trance ride next, with the younger crowds first encounter with
the duo, and did they love it. intelligent drum+bass was suppose to
be matt+kayla's next style, but the crowd was still very strong at 5am,
so they just continued with the ruff and tuff baselines, with the
huge teddy going mental to this set, handing out iceypols and
lollypops. this was an excellent night, with great venue/lighting/sound and wicked atmosphere.
by no doubt the biggest all ages event in '99.
video will be available on the HYP-SHOP soon.

yet another classic plastik party. a night of tech-house, with one
of the maestros. MRW was warming it up when we arrived, with his classic
bangin beats. Will-e-tell was next with his unique mad mix of techno,
nicely setting the scene for Christian Smith. Christian played a hectic
set of fresh tunes, alot of them of his own labels, gradually getting
harder and faster, with a bit of scratching thrown in for good measure
which is quite rare for trance dj.
O2 is I believe one of perths better clubs, and it looked good
for plastik, great night had by all, suprising to see that O2 wasn't
as full as expected, but never the less was a good event.

saturday 1st may '99
featuring:
adrian sardi andrew vranjes clay declan |
echoic greg packer JFOS royce |
tickets: $8 before 12, $12 thereafter
venue: players
Upon entry just before 11pm, I was greeted by Andrew Vranjes, headed downstairs, and had a sneak around to check out a venue
that I hadn't been to in a good 8 months or so. The decks had been moved to the back corner of the club since I had been there
last, and the sound system was fully cranking with slow breaks being mixed by Clay, who progressed into the drum and bass tip
towards the end of his class set. DJ Royce came on at 12 with more of a big-beat and chemical sound that yet again tested the
the sound system's capabilities, and kept the people moving on the dancefloor. Next up was James (Echoic), but I only caught
the first 15 minutes of his set, which started with Adam Freeland stlye slow breaks. I'm sure hisset was of the first class
nature we have come to expect from James. Personally I rate him as one of Perth's cleanest mixers along with Greg Packer. I came
back to Players just a tick after 2am to see 'Jase from outa space' bopping about on-stage, performing a live P.A. This was the
first time I had heard anything from Jason, and in short, I was left with a dropped jaw. This man clearly has fun performing
live, as shown with his ear-to-ear smile, and his crowd interaction. His set was of a very original drum and bass sound, quite
along the lines of Tea Power I thought - but with a deeper, darker undertone to it. He was running samples over basslines
and breaks he was generating live, jumping and hopping from keyboard to keyboard, utilising both hands as well as his feet, and
plenty of knob-shuffling to oooze out the pulsating frequencies he was producing. Set of the night!
3 o'clock came and it was up to Adrian Sardi to keep the crowd on the dancefloor, and he did just that. A much under-rated DJ,
Adrian dropped a bundle of current drum and bass anthems, and knew exactly what to play, and when to play it. Only the second
time I've heard Adrian play, and once again, I was well impressed: track selection, wicked mixes and a good attitude to the music.
The last DJ for the night I am not 100% sure on... Declan maybe? He continued on the drum and bass tip for about 20 minutes, shifting
the pace to chemical breaks. Unfortunately around this time, the crowd started to thin out, but was no reflection on the DJ or
the music he was playing. A dozen or so diehard dancers still managed to keep going until the end of the night came at 5am.
A different Saturday night for myself, but very much enjoyed. All in all, a wicked night... respect to Andrew Vranjes for putting
on a top night!

"Fuckin' rollin!" shouts one excited punter as he bounces around me and alongside the DJ box. This was only after five minutes
after DJ SS took over the decks from Andrew Vranjes who I must say played an absolutely tear-out set with the best selection I
have heard in a long time. He really got the crowd motivated for the arrival of SS and Warren G at 1:30am. Most people asumed, that
being an international event, that DJ SS would be playing at 2am as per the usual timeslot. But because of it being the morning of
Anzac Day, the set got bought forward for some reason. Gravity wasn't even half full at 1am, and it wasn't looking too promising in
regards to there being a large crowd for the night. I ended up jumping on the mic for the extra half an hour that Andrew played
(1-1:30am), and in that short amount of time, Gravity really packed it in. It wasn't quite as tight as the Grooverider crowd a few
weeks before that, but there still wasn't any dancefloor space to be seen... just a comfortable spread for all the punters.
I wouldn't have the faintest idea about exactly what tracks SS played on the night as I don't mix myself, nor do I keep up with labels
and their realeases in any depth. But the tunes he played were what we've come to expect from SS, and most of his own tunes were fairly
easily distinguished and they kept the crowd wanting more and more all night. Warren G also kept the crowd alive with his slick
style of mc'ing, and worked extremely well with SS. The only dampner on the night was that the fact the bar was closed down at 3am due
to the Anzac Day restrictions on the liquer act, and the night ending just after 3:30am. You have to spare a thought for DJ's Adrian Sardi
and Mental who never got to drop their sets. Nothing can compensate for them missing their sets, and the early closure problem
should have been addressed before the night even went ahead. On a lighter note, respect to the DJ's Internatty (10-11pm) and
Amnesia (11-12pm) for setting the pace and kick-starting yet another great international gig at Gravity.

We got there at 10pm, Hutcho was on the decks in the underages (Where were you Kev?!?!?), playing old skool anthems such as DJ's Unite Vol 1. Meanwhile in the overages was the up and coming DJ Aim-e, good mixing and tracks (Elevation :O)), and a nice personality. Next DJ I saw was Leroy in the underages. Nice set from the man, playing upfront bangin happy like the new dub from Devastate. Greg Packer was on next, interesting but wicked set from the man. Started off with old Basement classic tracks, then started playing some techno! and then back into some old skool with Sound Entity 2.. Wicked! The first international of the night was on next at 1am - DJ Rush. I heard the guy was good, but I didn't expect him to be as good as Sy! Trancecores not really my thing, but I still enjoyed the set. One and a half hours later, the man Hutcho was back on. This time he was playing 93-94 happy classics like Obsession (Music's So Wonderful). 3:30am, the man I had been waiting for was on - DJ Brisk. The man was well knackered due to lack of sleep, but still played an awesome set. Some classic track highlights were Reach Out (Brisk Rmx), Eyeopener (rmx), Hyperspace (Brisk Rmx) (Bang!'s new track, pity only on dub :( ), Love of My Life (rmx) and some new He Never Lost His Hardcore Rmx (Also on Dub only too BAH!). The crowd really enjoyed his set and the warehouse was packed. By the time it came to his last track - Shooting Star, the crowd had lost the plot. To finish the night off, Matt Dec played a nice set of Trancecore.
In summery it was a wicked night, unfortuantly the crowd attendance was small compared to past raves with only approximately 750 ppl. So where were you all??!? If the crowd attendance at raves continues to dwindle, I feel that the number of all age international dj raves will decline :( But to all that went, nice one! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!! I spose I will see you all at Atom One!
Shouts go out to Scott and Lesley@Choice Promotions, Max, Malcolm, James, Lenroy, Nathan, Paul, Petar, Justin, Lauren, Jenna, Ana, Hutcho and Kev, Nat (Happy 19th!!) and the other girls, Little Nat, and everyone else I have forgoten - Sorry :)
Bah!

Both the crowd and May were coming out will all guns blazing. He kicked
off with some stabby tech-disco, working basslines like they were soft
clay. Like many other dj's who afford the tag legendary, he displayed
his talent for incorporating many styles into a seamless mix. Jazzual
vocal scats sat comfortably with syncopated electro favourites, and half
an hour into his set, Derrick May had every set of limbs in the joint
flailing.

yet another massive gathering, main room was always full, with the back room
being more of a shelter from the madness in the main room.
rhibosome were amazing, with 2 drummers hammering away to some dark basslines,
with a dj dropping riffs ontop and scrathing it up, wicked d'n'b show.
captivating live show, by coldcut with brillant snyc of audio with video,
lots of nature type shots, eg. a massive humped back whale smashing
its tale on the deep blue ocean, every impact the whale drummed
a massive bang would shake the floor. loops of cartoons and presidents
resinating the big beat sound. coldcut had a whole table full of
anologue/audio equipment and special live video equipment which they went
crazy on. Matt Black's digital shirt attracted attention with every tick.
a visual spectacular, that was definatly different.

I arrived there at around 10pm where Dj Amnesia was playing some older but good tunes to the
small gathering which had arrived there early. After Amnesia where sets from Dj Size and Dj Greg
Packer. Size has been around for a while and always plays good tunes on the darker side of the
spectrum. Dj Greg Packer is without a doubt Perths best and most respected Dj and always
provides the crowd with something good. These guys all did a great job in getting the crowd worked
up as the night built up towards the now standard 2am timeslot that every international has had in
Perth for at least two years. When the room filled up I was having a look around to see what type of
people where there, as you do, and saw most of the usualy familiar faces and it seemed like even a
lot of the hardcore, trans and house crew had come out to support this one so it was a pretty mixed
crowd both in terms of musical tastes, musical knowledge and generaly types of people there. When
Rider finally stepped up to the decks I found myself being thrust forward in the crowd as a mass of
people piled into the venue from out of nowhere.
I am not sure what track it was that rider started with but it went down well, with the crowd
immediatley worked up into a frenzy. I would like to give a run down on all the tracks that Rider
played but I just don't know. It was dub-plates all the way, and the crowd knew it. There was
almost a cheer with every single track that was brought in. The tracks I did manage to pick up on
where Cyba 3, Sonar remix on Prototype, Ram 25-the beginning, Wheres jack the ripper- Ed
rush/optical rmx, and There's something out there feat. Lea (Ray Keith) was pointed out to me by Dj
Internatty. All of these tracks went down well with The later of the five the crowd was worked up
into a frenzy which managed to get Rider to pull it back for one of the very few rewinds of the night,
or was that when the neddle jumped, either way the crowd went wild and he took it from the top.
Thankfully I think there was only two rewinds on the night and one if not both of them where due to
the stylus skidding, so the set was very fluid and on this particular night Rider must have been
enjoying himself because he certainly was hitting the mixes and it was sounding wicked.
After about one and a half-hours I looked at my watch and thought, "wow, still another half an hour
to go", I was wrong. Rider gave the enthusiastic crowd and extra 30 minutes playing from 2 right
through untill 4:30 am. The first half of his set seemed to be where he played most of the lively stuff
then he slowly brought it down a bit playing some deeper tunes which was definatley not to the
disapointment of the well educated crowd, even the hardcore crew seemed to be loving it? For the
last part of his set he brought it up again going even to a jump-up tip with a couple of the tracks and
then finished of with Known Unknown 1(AC20). Luckily the MC for the night Interjecta is one of
those MCs that didn't talk shit throughout the entire set, he came in with the odd rhyme in the right
places and didn't call for rewinds.
Grooverider once again prooved himself to the people of Perth. His selection, his booth presence, his
subtle communication with the crowd, the bonus 30 minutes, yes even his mixing. What else can be
said except that the guy is a true professional and lives up to the numerous names he has aquired.
There was rumor that this would be GrooveRiders last set in Perth, if so, he will be sadly missed.

the different style is what people loved. He played wicked fresh tunes and
