A Sides Biography

A Sides has become a highly respected producer / DJ over the past 5 years. He has been producing music since 1990 and has released over 250 tracks to date. As well as running his own labels Eastside, Fuze, and Diagram he has found time to record for other labels such as Reel to Reel, Mac 2, Metalheadz, Reinforced, Advanced, Juice, Splash, Strictly Underground and Genetic Stress. A Sides is currently working on confirmed releases for Digital’s ‘Funktion’ label and for Dillinja’s ‘Valve’ label who are, like A Sides, both known to be experts in the field of super heavy basslines.

A Sides has also been taking on a lot of remix work recently after the success of his remix of Waterhouse Dub by Digital. Further remix productions include those for Pivotal, Skunkrock Productions and the legendary Brazillian percussionist Dom Um Rumao.

The past 2 years have been A Sides most succesful to date. Last year saw the release of Eastside Jamz Vol. 2, an Eastside Records compilation with contributions by high-profile producers such as Peshay, Digital & Spirit, Total Science, Calibre and A Sides himself in collaboration with MC Fats. In 2003 A Sides releases among many other tracks, his much anticipated single ‘What U Don’t Know’ featuring the vocal talents of MC Fats and Regina (July 2003) and follows up with his first ever solo album ‘Follow The Groove’ (Oct. 2003) with further productions featuring MC MC, J-Cut and his Sci-Clone partner Nathan Hines. A Sides can like no other combine soulful vocals with rolling breaks and his heavy trademark bass, thus making his tracks work extremely well on the dancefloor. A quality that a variety of top DJs have long noticed. A Sides tracks appear regularly on Grooverider’s playlists, Fabio and Andy C both licenced ‘What U Don’t Know’ for their current mix-cds.

And while A Sides is not in the studio he finds time to hold down a busy dj schedule. He has extensively toured the globe and has played in countries such as Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, France, Norway, Holland, Belgium, Canada and The United States where he holds a residence at New York City's Direct Drive. But also a variety of less obvious places like Iceland, Estonia, Slovenia, Israel, Spain, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Japan and New Zealand have experienced the force that is A Sides.

A Sides is known for his tight mixing skills and technicality as a dj. And with most high-profile djs in the scene playing his tunes on dubplate, A Sides is spoilt for choice as in return he gets loads of fresh material from them. This is mirrored in his versatile track selection. He plays across the board with his sets combining a mixture of all drum’n’bass flavours.

A Sides ended 2003 with the release of his highly acclaimed debut album ‘Follow The Groove’ and a tour of Europe to promote it.

2004 started off with a tour of Japan and one in the USA plus further gigs in Europe. Mirroring he returned to the USA in autumn and also went back to Japan to record a live mix cd feat. MC Fats at his gig in Tokyo.

Somehow in his hectic schedule he found time to sign his tracks to various high profile labels, for realease in Winter 2004/2005:

  • “Exodus” out now on Dillinja’s ‘Valve Rec.’ (Spectrum Album)
  • Def Con One “Time Is The Fire (A Sides remix)” out now on Randall’s ‘Mac 2’
  • “A Certain Sound / Bring Dat” (both tracks feat. MC Fats) out now on Hype’s ‘True Playaz’
  • “In the Zone” (A Sides feat. J-Eye) out 2005 on Liquid V

Projects still in the works are ‚Separation’ with ‚Jenna G’ for her forthcoming solo album on ‚Bingo’, as well as ‚Star Booty’ with ‚DJ Marky’ for Marky’s ‚Innerground’ imprint. And there’s more work for MC Fats’ album ‚A Matter of Fats’ due to be released on ‚Ganja Records’ plus a track he is working on for an album being released by ‚Twisted Individual’.

His own label Eastside also has some real killers in store :

  • A Sides & Calibre (“Distinction” / “People of Tomorrow”) is out now
  • ‘Vanishing Point’ / ‘Tell Me’ by hot new talent Break
  • a mix-cd by the mighty Randall

And to top it all up he spent time in the studio with Cleveland Watkiss and plans to get back together with Nathan Haines to record a new ‘Sci-Clone’ single. Watch this space !!!
