Gday mates, http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Ive done a wee bit of production with a mate on his PC, he's got some program where you have a 303 on screen and you can turn the knobs with yer mouse etc etc, though I dont have a PC at home, and want to invest in some good beat boxes/ synthizers, etc etc though to be honest DONT HAVE A FUCKING CLUE. http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/confused.gif
I need to get clued up, so does anyone out there have any suggestions/knowledge in the production field and can advise me? I just want something that could churn out a tune similar to Laurent Garnier's "The Man With the Red Face" or Ed Rush & Optical's "Kerbcrawler". Fortunately, my budget is not restricted. http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/wink.gif

Maybe you'll be doing tunes like that.... in about 5 years time.
Do a search for "introduction" + "synthesis".
That'll get you started.

The program you are talking about is called Rebirth.

but in all seriousness. you should first deside whether you're going to go software or hardware with your MIDI appz. software is a lot cheaper. i'd recommend getting a MIDI ctrl keyboard, a few softsynths and a prog like Cubase to start you out. but to get tha reeeeal deal about it you should go and pick the brains at Kosmic or somewhere like that.
the only real advise i can give you is NOT to get a Groove Box like setup...you know "a studio in a box"...a rip off if you ask me, and you won't get any origianl sounding tunes coming out.

Nah for a Mackie you'd be looking at $10 000+ I'd say
I've got a Peavey 32 x 8 and that cost over $8000

Hey, don't knock the 303!
Try a general search or just go round to the different sites and grab a look at the equipment and the price.
That my thought anyway! http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/sad.gif

It's a twelve track. And it's a Behringer. Don't get me wrong, Behringer make pretty good mixers, but there's a BIG difference between that and a 32 channel 8 track Mackie or Peavey... an extra 6 aux. outputs per channel to start with...
32 channel mixers are usually only used for pretty big / professional instalations so the price & quality goes up accordingly I guess

i would need parametric eq... is that a normal thing on mixers of that size? if not how much would a 24 channel mixer cost with parametric eq?
Grover

Yeah parametric eq's are pretty much standard I'd say... I've also got an old ('80s model) 12 channel 4 track Tascam and that's still got parametric eq, but only on the midrange. Do you really need 32 or even 24 inputs? You'd save lots of $$$ by opting for a shit hot 12ch 4 track instead of a really big desk that takes up half your room and has a heap of inputs that you won't need.
You should have checked out the Kosmic fire sale, a 32 channel desk went for under $2000(!)
