Okay, I'm after some "old skool" tunes because I have some wicked old tapes from the likes of Darren Briais, Dave Jackson, Mario Travelli, Miggy and Ben Stinga but don't know what the songs on 'em are called... however I DO NOT want the crap that gets played at every fucking old skool set in Perth like Crowd Control by Slipmatt, Trip to the Moon by Acen etc... ie no shitty happy hardcore, because that's not the way I remember the old events.
Rather I want tunes like the vocal house that Stinga used to play, and on a mainstream techno tip (ie the songs that I can name) tunes like 3AM Eternal (do I have to tell you who it's by?!) Take Me by Dream Frequency, Positive Feedback by The Cleptomaniacs, Out of It by Spirit Level, When the Morning Comes by Love Decade, Energy Rush by Suburban Delay, Rock to the Beat by Reese and Santonio, Pacific by 808 State, ummmm fuck I don't know 40 Miles by Congress, Utah Saints blah blah blah.
You know, THAT era!

Actually I'm not really into vinyl because I don't have a turntable but you are welcome to my quality Chipmunk Punk, Bambi and Peter Pan LPs
Oh yeah and Neophyte's "Live at the Nightmare" and the original 1982 version of Blue Monday but you're not getting that one http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/wink.gif
I was hoping people could name drop some quality tunes from back then so I could try to download 'em for free the way all good dodgy scousers do, thereby avoiding paying any royalties to some bedroom DJ who is either dead now or locked up in a mental institution or working in a bank with metal tubes inserted up his nose to replace the nostrils he burnt out 10 years ago

my mate bought the Packer 97 Reunion @ Centrals....the best $20 he ever spent- some say that $20 was a rip off, though its an epic part of Packer history, and to this day, he apparently rates this set as the second best atmosphered that he's ever played...closely behind Dance Planet 94 longside Ellis Dee and DJ SY.
The other tapes are EASY to get copies of. Just got to any old skool site such as http://www.oldskool.weekend-rush.com and contact webmaster for info or go to links. http://www.teknoscape.com.au/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

yeah, it was actually 2 tapes- they both had the logo on the front from the Reunion 97 flyer- if anyone still has it-they'll know the score- female looking Robocop type thang....
the main tape- (the one me mate had) is blue, and the other tape that has 1/2 hour of Packer mixing & I believe 1 hour of Big Mac was red...
The blue copy was limited and if your lucky enough to have heard it, IT ROCKED, as ANYONE that witnessed Packers set at Reunion 97 will be able to confirm....

If you have a Sound Blaster use Sound Recorder to record, use Volume Control to select which source you want... now you can rip all those luvverly mix sessions from JJJ / RTR http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/wink.gif

Probably Not
I had suggested this to a mate in Perth and he said "nah man, Old Skool & Perth= Sell Out."
I tend to agree with this...If one was to get The Ratpack over to Perth, I think there is a chance you may make your money back, though I dont reckon you'd stand a chance unless you made it all ages, or 15+ as its known nowadays.
And with regards to getting those faces out of raving retirement from the 92/93..i reckon 2/10 would attend- if your lucky.
They also do not come cheap- they charge £800 over here for a 2 hour set..add that to flights & accommadation and your looking at a small packet. When you look at these facts you realise why promoters try and push for pre-sales.
Oh well, yesterday is gone...tomorrow never comes....live for today. http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/wink.gif

Thats the thing....seems alot of people who attended raves in the early 90's just kinda 'were there' if that makes any sense.
I know quite a few people in their early 30's who go 'Oh yeah I went to Telepathy man we took so many drugs! etc.
Alot of people from this era seemed to have absoloutely fuck all idea who most the Dj's were, what they were playing or what was going on.
Sure there was a contingent of people who loved their hardcore, and followed it closely, but wether or not they give a fuck about it now is another story.

me and all my mates have always been, and will always be,
'ardcore ravers
at heart.
"RATPACKS ROCKIN DOWN DE 'OUUUUUUUSE...."
(Ratpacks remix of 'Bombscare')
I suppose reality is that there is no such thing as an event where every last one knows their shit, except possibly Skelter in the UK, that was unbelievable, everywhere you looked across the Sanctuary warehouse, everyone was all singing the words to 'Ready Or Not' Hype 96 RMX, on NYE Millenium, and that rocked.
Bottom line, unfortunately If you want to get down with loads of people that know the score= England, its well worth it.
I moved here cos I was just sick and tired of going to events and meeting people that knew fuck all about anything..."Oh, I dont know what the DJ's are called, Im just here a) for the drugs man, and b) for the music- its wicked, its the bomb....whats its called again?" http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/wow.gif
Oh well, as Ive said many times before and I'll say many again...I have to take my shit day at work/the fact I havent been for a swim and feel like shite out on someone...or somewhere...TS: Haven to wind up merchants.

Getting people out of 'raving retirement' as its been discussed is no simple matter. Although I'd class myself a second generation raver (started going at Deja Vu) through till '96 as a regular - many mates started much earlier - and are hard bastards to convince to go out.
Old skool parties will always be good sellers - but for my mind these are some good pointers for the potential promoter:
* Choose a venue with some significance - i.e. Berlin, the old James St, DCs / Infirmary, Firm, Limbos, Freezer etc Remember to many of us that room embodies the earlier scene - no-one has yet done a 'strawberry fields' rewind party at James st in fookin ages - hint hint!
* Round up those old DJs still willing to play - don't get people who were still in nappies at the time to "intepret" what was big at the time - if possible any residents from that old club http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/smile.gif
* Stick to the theme of old skool - Reunion parties - although great fun, just became too modern towards the end - the first party in 1995 really hit the nail on the head - it was 88-92 and that was what the old skool wanted - you don't go to hear crystal method, or some late 90s house anthem.
* Get a name act like RatPack or some international DJ from that era thats still willing to play a decent set - unlike Slipmatt who does the same fucking mixes as all his old sets from years ago..
* Get a flyer out loooooooong before the event - remember we never used to have this new fangled internet back then.. We still like a good flyer! If possible get an old production crew like Ohm Nrg, USM, Raggabone (Source) to lend a hand or a trademark symbol to it! Names like Delirium & MFI will be lost on the old skool.
* 18+ even if you can't get a liquor license - one more time for those who missed it - 18+ [having shitloads of candy kids there means little of the old skool will front].
There is cash to be made lads - its a question of getting it right and not fucking up the theme - if you do it right - they will come - having dusted off the Bloggs.
Plan a good event people - and I will be there - plus I'll try and work on my mates to come along! http://www.teknoscape.com.au/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

ANYWAY BACK TO THE STORY when da fark is someone gonna name-drop some big hitting HOUSE tunes for me?!
ie Berlin / Freezer / James St / Inner City Firm / that-place-in-Shafto-Lane style groovy tunes NOT the Elevation / Infirmary ratpack style hardcore (decent early breakbeat tunes excepted)
Surely someone's got some old Stinga tapes where he babbles his trademark "DEEP DEEP TUNE" or "SMOOOOOTH" before announcing the NAME OF THE SONG?!

Kellhound it depends on the crowd you want to attract - theres enough of us ol farts still running around to make a good go of an oldskool night - the Rewind night at Metros was evidence of that.
If you're trying to go for the oldskool dollar - you have to accept that throwing the door open to all ages is a sure way to keep many of us geriatrics away - 100 whistles, glowsticks and furry pant wearing kids is a bit too much..
