Reverb is cool. Full stop. Use it :D
Heres some basic settings I use.. If anyone thinks these should be different in any way please say so... I'm here to learn as well! :D
My weapon of choice is TC Native Reverb as I like to have control over the colour and the TC reverb has a wicked x,y pad for the colour :D PLus it sounds wicked in my books :)
Snares: short decay, medium to bright colour, short delay, small send amounts.. use the "drum room" preset if u have tc native.. it does the job nicely
Pads: long decay (10 to 20ms or so), bright colour for happy/uplifting melodies... warm colour for dark/sad melodies, long delay (20ms), shitloads of send amount
Leads: I usually send my lead lines to the same reverb as the pads/strings but in less amounts..
Basslines: medium decay, colour depends on the sound usually and the mood, medium delay.... sometimes for progressive (dnb, trance or breaks) tracks I'll send the bassline to the same reverb as the pads/strings/leads but in tiny amounts...
The room size I choose depends on the track I'm writing... for trancey numbers I always use bigger room sizes (cathedral, large room etc.) but harder tracks can sound like poo with too much reverb so I just use my ears :D
Also sometimes I like to put a tiny amount of bright reverb on my hihats.. helps make the beat sound fuller sumtimes..
