I actually prefer to not get the breakfasts included as I think it's nice to have brekkie somewhere different everyday. Much cheaper to go out for brekkie too.

Flight centre had a 4 night w/accom flight for 400+100 tax

Apparently you can rent whole villas and get a maid and a driver for bugger all, so i was thinking of going in oct. I'll post the prices when i find out.

    ahh the memories.

I did my professional practice for my uni course in bali. The government paid for the flight and gave us $2000 each cash as part of a regional awareness interaction program thing. (stupid government) We did sweet fuck all work, partyed every single nite, and sipped cheap cocktails on the beach for 3 months. It was heaven

We rented out townhouses, but we used all the expensive hotels' pools and bars. We met heaps of aussies that lived over there and joined their afl footy team, GO THE BALI GECKOS! and we played against a team of singapore ex-pats. Oh and met loads of swedish girls....mmm swedish girls....

i fly out 8am tomorrow morning!!!

yeah flying garuda and staying at the bounty for 10 days - pretty standard, but i'm going with 6 of my best mates and we're pretty much all finishing uni next year so its gonna be the last time to go nuts before we're slaves to some corporation.

So if any of you are over there and see 7 guys running around in bintang singlets, or getting people to write stuff on their shirts, or asking everybody to call them bob... say hi!

after being away from the place a few years i always want to go back, then when i find ive been there a few days i want to leave, my idea of a holiday isnt walking down a street being shrieked at by locals to buy their crappy t-shirts.
i love changing money though, those bastards are so crafty, its wonderful to watch. once after asking the exchange dude to count it out three times, it looked all good to me, but i decided to count it out on the way out, and i was down like 10,000rp or something, so i went back in and told the bastard he had ripped me off, which he denied. His establishment being part clothes store also, i simply removed my cigarette lighter from my pocket, lit it, and held it just out of reach of the nearest item. his english got suprisingly better instantly and he gave me twice what he ripped me off for.
if you go to any of the other surrounding islands, make sure you head to nusa lembongan, really nice surf, and reef/coral that i thought far eclipsed the great barrier reef, it was amazing the fluro colours, well worth a dive.

oh, and the swedish girls there rock, my brother brought back two of the hottest girls ever about a year ago that he met there, and they stayed with us a while here

i went in february with three of my closest mates. had the aboslutely best time. took about $850 and came back with $200. on the first day there we booked a white water rafting + parasailing combo for $45 aus! they picked us up from the hotel and took us there, gave us lunch then dropped us off. then picked us up the next day for the parasailing.

we stayed at the Barong hotel, which used to be the sister hotel to the bounty. it was a lovely place, really clean rooms. air-conditioner was so cold we got chest infections by the end.

be wary of the beaches, they are crawling with people just waiting to sell you their shit. although it's alot of fun going down their and having a laugh with them.
guarentee they'll remember your name if you tell them! even days later they'll never forget.

although the cheap shit is good, i mostly bought real surf stuff from the unlimited stores there.

check out everything. water bom park (which it is now called), monkey forest, elephant walking, fresh seafood on the beach in jim baran bay at sunset ( ), go to the bounty ship pub at nights (soo many tourists!), and make sure you catch only blue bird taxis and tell them to put the meter on.

    HAVE FUN!

fresh seafood on the beach in jim baran bay at sunset ( ),
forget about days later, they remember your name years later. my parents go every year and used to be amazed that they were remembered and called out by name.
The Balinese are amazing like that.... same with languages, a lot of them will be totally multilingual. They have to be with all the tourists.

A little tip my mum discovered, if you want to do something good, take some old clothes over that you dont want anymore (tshirts etc, nothing strappy or revealing) A lot of the beach sellers are doing it pretty tough and will be extremely happy to trade for clothes (or even if you just want to do something nice and give them to them)

as for jimbaran bay, absolute heaven but not as good/cheap as it used to be, be very careful not to get ripped off.

yeh vil my parents go once or twice a year anf have for the last 20 years or so... they still get remembered every year, my dad goes on surfing trips there quite often, and always uses the same guys to drive them, and mum gets massages from the same 100year old lady every year. LOL.

we always promise the girls to bring them back clothes and old nail polish and that sort of thing... dont usually remember tyho

im not too into the beach any more, last time i went i couldnt move half a metre without wading through rubbish. it was pretty horrible. i guess i will stick by the pool this year, sipping cocktails

i never understand why ppl always stay at the bounty? looks a bit dodge for me, i guess its more of a young person party hotel or something??

I went in april and stayed at Bounty.
Was pretty budget , but there was always a party going on until sunrise in the pool every morning so its a good place to go after the clubs to have a few jungle juice nightcaps

I enjoyed the tour of the Volcanic Crater and the Jet-skiing the best.

Our last day was hell though....our flight got cancelled so Garuda got us to stay overnight in a really nice Hotel of theirs. It was some 5 star place , but once the staff realised we were not real paying customers they treated us like shit.

We were promised "free meals" and instead we were given food stamp vouchers. The breakfast we had was our last nights meal leftovers re-heated.......I made the mistake of having some bacon

About 5 minutes before boarding the next morning I felt like someone had punched me in my stomach and I ran to the gents and made it just in time.
I was up and out of my seat with the runs all through the flight.
Then when I got home I had a raging fever to the point of where I was delirious and started to think I was back in the markets at bali trying to barter for a shirt...

Took about a week to get over, apparently it was pork food poisoning which is pretty bad.

    so...fuck garuda

just got back midnight last night, had an awesome time!!!

i stayed at the bounty - its a nice hotel, but almost everybody we met there came from perth so its hardly exotic. also they play the same music ALL DAY, EVERYDAY and its all exactly the same shit - i swear if i hear anything from the black eyed peas new album again i will go crazy.

fortunately one of my mates knew a guy that lived there so he showed us around heaps which was awesome - the tour guides and pretty much everybody else there are just out to rip you off. Eg. for "white water rafting" they were quoting like $65 US for the day and we got it for like $30 AUS.

We did the standard kinda touristy things - snorkelling, turtle island, water bom park, hot springs, etc. - my favourite was definitely jet skiing though... i didn't listen whey they told me to just stay in one area and the guys were shouting at me after i zoomed off into the main boating channels for like 10 mins, lol

money changers are definitely a laugh too - either take your own calculator or be good at maths -> some of them even have calculators which have been modified to give smaller amounts than they should. Haha my mate trusted the calculator over me and got ripped off!

Anyway, I could go on about it for ages - but if anybody has any specific questions feel free to msg me.

oh yeah and get elektrik melon fanta - its awesome!

yeh i think it is more "happening"

personal preference i guess. i would rather stay somewhere a bit nicer and quiet - i dont really go on holidays to party!

in miami we stayed at one of the biggest hotels there, where pretty much everyone else from the "uk dnb scene" was staying. it was kinda cool, as you saw people you knew and stuff, but then it was also shit, as there were so many posers there, the pool area was always packed with idiots... restaurant for brekkie always packed. plus it was really expensive.

i want to share my holiday experience with my partner, not stacks of other ppl.

same here, i would never want to stay somewhere like bounty
and hooj: every hotel in bali has pool bars, at least every one ive been to, and ive been there a lot.

i just got back, and i want to go back!
stayed at discovery kartika plaza which was beautiful, lots of markets close enough, about 10 min walk to kuta, hotel runs onto the beach with a huge gorgeous pool.
buffet breakfasts were ridiculously good. amazing fruit, all western style breakfasts plus asian, the cook your eggs in front of you however you like them, plus cakes, pancakes, danishes etc, the works!

    talk about getting fat!

got a bit of a tan, did heaps of shopping, massages on the beach every day, drank cocktails by the pool everyday, and vodka on the balcony every night, ate out at gorgeous little restaurants, full meals for stuff all.

and heres a tip for SMALL BREASTED GIRLS@!!! Bonus for us, if you want nice underwear, the dept stores have stacks and stacks of gorgeous stuff, but the biggest size is a B cup. Avg price for a set $10, really good quality stuff. bras on their own were about $3.

really cheap day spa packages over there too had a 3 hour package for about $30.

rahhh its yucky here i want to go back

yeah ive never done the spa thing up there before but i will be again in future.
the place where we went was gorgeous, it would be so romantic to do it with your partner, in a little hut with 2 massage tables in it and your own little spa
plus you would pay about 10 times as much here

i'd much rather go to disneyworld over bali
never been to bali before but it sounds gross.

don't see the point in taking a holiday to bali unless it's a family trip or surfing trip

i found Kuta to be extremely filthy especially the beach, there was rubbish *everywhere*

I only found the beautiful parts of bali were around the back end of the island. Out of the main "touristy" zones... Which we only got around to seeing twice

Need to be careful walking around Kuta....one moment your on a footpath, then next moment there is a 1.5m hole in the ground

there is much more to bali than kuta.
AND even in kuta there are lots of beautiful bits.

but yes i wouldnt advise swimming at the main beach there anymore, last time i went i couldnt swim for more than half a metre without being plastered by a bit of rubbish.

jamie: everytime i have been to bali its been a family holiday, and my dad goes there twice a year to surf... this time tho paul and i just want to have a quick holiday somewhere warm nice and cheap while we are back in perth. bali is perfect for this
