Recordings' sister label 'Tangent
Recordings' comes from Perth,
Australia. Greg Packer was the 1st
DJ to play Drum & Bass in Oz and
won the Australian Mixing
Championships 91-92. He runs his
own label (Interphase Recordings)
and has forthcoming releases on
Chihuahua, Good Looking,
Hardleaders & Phuturo. DJs currently
smashing Packer material are LTJ
Bukem, Fabio, John B, Addiction,
Nookie, High Contrast, JuJu &
NuTone.

Like all the best desserts, this one is
sweet and supple, but with an extra
shot of vodka thrown in for good
measure. This is a useful record for
drawing the crowd deeper into your
mix. At 3 a.m. and halfway through a
killer set, this is just the medicine
needed to soothe the bruises from
all those nasty amen breaks. Its
thumping drum-loop plays host to
some driving, filtered pads and
intoxicating female moans and
groans; making this record like
simulated sex on the dance-floor.
This is a beacon for all to follow
when the going gets tough.

Wake Up

This track features a dexterous
combination of drums and
percussion, which will have you
tweaking and twisting at those EQ’s
so that the audience can fully
experience the sounds blaring
through your headphones. The
stepping drums are coupled perfectly
with some high-release / low attack
rolling pads and keys, which leave
the audience with two separate
audio plains with which to focus their
attention and adjust their movements
to. The bass-line, although
melodious, was crafted in a darker
domain than its counterparts; it is
fused with a raw, electric texture that
helps to charge up the crowd. This is
a tune to play when it is all said and
done, you are happy with your set,
and you simply want to kick back to
some driving, chilled-out grooves.

john got a little carried away with the press release , it was supposed to be first dj in west australia & west australian mixing comp , i think he just bigged it up more by saying 'australia' however widely reguarded as one of the first to play d&b in the country was 'atom-1' in M E L B O U R N E (good friend of mine) back in 93/94 and i know & he knows i was playing it before him so u never know ! but definatley first in wa !

cheers for the big up's & all that , yes yes lotsa bits coming soon and lord fabio has jumped on the GP tip by so far playing 2 tracks on radio one ! by mid 2002 there should be a fair few of my tracks circulating globally !

i thought atom 1 was a writer when i met him in 95 but no he wasn't it was a different guy but was from M E L B O U R N E aswell , wonder what he thought of a dj taking his tag name ha ha!

interphazer - any chance of getting a little rundown of how you go about making yur tunes? (unless its a closely guarded secret and all

i guess you use software for sequencing but what about mixing. like do you use an external mixing desk or software (like logic/cubase) with a good audio card.

for synths/samplers/effects do you use only hardware or a combination of hardware/software?

do you master your own tunes??

do you pull more chicks now that your a DJ/Producer?

basically use both software & hardware , external desk & digi 001 software for mixing also , i usually get chief inspector sardi to do my mastering if its for my own label otherwise the uk labels take care of the mastering side of things although i provide the final mixdown myself beforehand.
and no i don't pull more chix , i think you'd pull more being a dj up in the limelight behind the dex , not that happens ! once in a blue moon i might get a sexy 19year old flutter her eyelashes but thats about it ! ha ha

I popped my head into teknoscape to see if anyone else noticed the array of tunes by Greg on John B's D&B arena mix. I guess you all did.

Apparently theres a program someone was telling me about that allows you to download sets such as this that are usually a stream only. I'll try and get the name of it later this week.

Respect anyway Greg. It would seem your the only one John B seems worthy enought to mix.
