    I sas God On My Side last night.

    It's Andrew Denton's doco on fundamentalist Christianity. Not as funny as I thought, just fucking frustrating. So many misguided people with so much hatred disguised as love for Jebus.

    Also got my hands on Tideland, Terry Gilliam's latest flick.

    It doesn't look like being released here for a while (if ever). Possibly a bit too contraversial because nasty stuff happens to a little girl I think. Note this is purely conjecture, all I know is a little girl's smackhead parents die and she gets lost in her own subconciousness. Or something.
    How they can knock back a director of his stature I'll never know.

    Probably gonna wack it on a big screen in a lecture theatre at uni next week, don't want to watch it until then.

    saw children of men on the weekend, thought it was brilliant

    although it was a dodgy VCD version and the sound was rubbish, I would like to see it in the cinema as Im sure there were certain subtleties I might have missed

    I am also halfway through watching lawrence of arabia. I thought it would be boring but Im actually really enjoying it. alec guinness as an arab = I keep expecting him to bust out a lightsaber

    i watched office space again last night after my stapler comments on friday
    such a good movie to rewatch
    although i mostly enjoy the setup, after they steal the money i am less interested

    also discovered that the guy (tom) who ended up in a wheelchair was the creepy man made of bugs in buffy

    Tideland is pretty loooose
    the little girl is really good at acting too, definitely worth watching once

    Trailer to 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to 28 Days Later. I'm sure some people here might be interested in this. 28 Days Later is defintely one of the best Zombie/Infection films ever made.

    Saw Children of Man the other week. Very average. Clive Owen is awful in it. Great concept...but so badly done. Never had any momentum. Could have been a very good film.

    Christ!!! I've just read back the other posts recently in the thread and all seem to be agreed that 'Children of Men' is a great film. Have I missed something?

    I really thought it was a fantastic concept and had massive potential, but I just couldn't get over the really poor acting and the fact it felt like a really badly directed episode of Dr Who (not really...just had the feel of it).

    I really wanted to like it too because I loved the concept and a lot of the authenticity (not overtly futuristic, but just enough to remind us it was set in the future) and griminess (is that a word) of the look of the future. But for some reason it just didn't do it for me.

    What I've seen recently (if anyone cares):

    The Departed - Really liked this. Someone told me the ending was a disappointment, but I disagree. DiCaprio is brilliant as is Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg is quite amusing. Scorcese has still got it.

    Children of Men - Covered above. Pants

    Talladega Nights - Loved it. Baby Jesus, Karen the cougar etc

    V for Vendetta - Really liked this film. Riveting from start to finish. Very stylish and entertaining (unlike this post)

    American Dreamz - Dear God no. What was I thinking?

    Kenny - Class. Laughed out loud from start to finish

    DaVinci Code - Attempted in two sittings. Couldn't really be bothered. Not sure it's worth it if you've already read the book.

    this movie is exactly like my work, banking software, too many bosses. right down to bill lumburgh, who is a dead ringer of my old boss who was canadian & had the square glasses going on. everyone at my work who sees this movie feels a little weird.

    the acting was good I thought! Michael Caine in particular.

    I thought the directing was really effective, that "over the shoulder" sort of style which makes everything seem visceral and gnarly, especially in the final scenes where the camera follows clive around for 20 minutes without a cut.

    I was unable to fully appreciate it though becuase it was a dodgy cam version, the sound was fucking terrible and perhaps there were some things I missed. I wanna see it properly at the movies.

    can you elaborate on why you didnt like it? Im interested to hear more

    Pierre: I just can’t really put my finger on it. I can’t say I’m a master at critiqueing (sic?) films, but all I know is that I just sat there waiting for it to finish. Maybe it’s just because it was such a grand concept but just felt anticlimactic for me. Some of the love interest scenes were pretty awful. I think I might have to watch again as it’s been a few weeks and I have goldfish memory, but I know that I left the cinema very disappointed. I really felt it had a lot of potential but never really got going for me.

    Angry: Ha ha…part of the problem may have been that I never felt for the characters? Is that my fault or maybe the fault of Clive Owen’s wooden acting and some of the hammy scenes? Probably mine…ha ha. All the serotonin has been depleted by pitched up vocals and pianos and 175 bpm beats.

    Maybe you’ve actually hit on something there. To me a concept is only part of the movie…but I just never warmed to the central characters. I think Clive Owen lacks charisma in that role. Maybe he was trying to play the strong type that men respect and women swoon for…but as a man I didn’t feel anything for his character as Owen portrayed it. I wasn’t really that bothered whether he was the hero of the day or not.

    I see what you mean... it would have been cool to know a bit more about the backstory.

    I really liked the end though, when all the soldiers just stop and let him through, that was very powerful.

    the whole movie reminded me a lot of half life 2

    i agree i thought clive owen played the role really well. i agree there were a few bits that were a little bit slow but on a whole i loved the movie. mianly for how visualy brilliant it was. the cinematography was awsome. in one bit blood even gets splattered on the camera and doesnt get wiped off for a bout 5 minutes. to me it was a really really good vision of a completely hopeless world.

    recently watched two new flicks and a fav,

    Colour me Kubrick - being a huge fan of John Malkovich i really enjoyed this - offbeat tale based on a true story of an englishman who for some years successfully conned many people into believing he was Stanley Kubrick - Malkovich plays an excellent fraud in this, worth seeing for his superb acting and th etotal irony of the situation - he only got away with it cause Kubrick was entirely reclusive......

    Capote - Philip Seymour Hoffman - another hugely talented and totally underrated actor imo. Great movie covering the way Truman Capote wrote In Cold Blood - I read the book then watched the flick - fantastic.

    Swimming With Sharks - Kevin Spacey - excellent flick about a hollywood producer's assistant pushed too far by the politics of the film industry - made in 95 i think but still really fresh.....

    thats my recent DVD fest.....

    Yeah thats what was cool about it I thought...Some of the people he was talking to, I've met types similar to them before, so it was well believable. Really good ending to that movie.

    Like it how Denton thought 'I want to show the world how extremism is the problem not Islam' and went and did it. Oh to have the celebrity status to be able to do that kind of thing!

    just finished watching Casino Royale, Daniel Craig is pretty much pure sex as Bond.

    I thought it was great, yes his pout was a little cheesey some times but besides that it was great, and the film seemed to go on forever (a good thing <3)

    he's so ice cold and hard as fuck i have to watch it again

    watched a really cool animated film the other day called Renaissance 2054.

    really enjoyed it, its set in Paris in the future. It is entirely CG, but it's all high contrast black and white (visually similar to Sin City but much more epic in scope) which looks fucken amazing, and adds so much atmosphere. Its good to see the odd "adult" CGI movie in amongst all the tiresome big studio "animals in fish out of water scenario" releases.

    Finally saw Children of Men last night - pretty awesome. Another one to add to the cool dystopian flicks list.

    Also saw Silent Hill. Can't believe I wasted two hours of my life on that shit. I feel more ripped off than when I saw Deep Blue Sea.

    Sex and Zen - brilliant Chinese comedy porn, hadn't seen it in yonks. It's still rofl.

    Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! - 60s sexpoitation is never a bad thing.

    Atame! (Tie Me Up Tie Me Down) - okay, not Almadovar's best. Needs more Penelope.

    saw scanner darkly yesterday- thought it was completely awsome. that said i live for linklaters movies.

    others ive seen- jackass2, hilarious one of the funniest movies ive ever seen
    borat- good but not as good as i expected.

    lots of movies im looking forward to coming out also. babel looks awsome, as does the pursuit of happyness and dejavu
    So as the saying goes let your children run wild and free.
