We need to collectively admit that we’re not fine. We’re not confident and balanced and good. We turn up to work every day pretending we’re not neurotic and obsessed and insatiable and full of doubt. And we waste so much energy keeping up this mutual pretence for each other because we think if people saw the truth, if people really knew what was going on in your head, all the crazy truth of your dark appetites and self-loathing, then you’d get rejected.

But, in fact, the opposite is true. It’s when we dare to reveal the truth that we unwittingly give everyone else permission to do the same. To stop holding their breath for a moment and actually come into the room. To be here, present, vulnerable and authentic.

I haven't seen it but the whole world thinks Southland Tales is shit. They had massive reshoots and its apparently a total mess.

I watch The Bank Job yesterday. Not bad. Not amazing either though.

    whats the point of anything?
i found it entertaining, i enjoyed the characters, i loved the scenery.
i thought the storyline was quite poignant - it was a journey for the brothers.
    i really liked it.

I always find it refreshing to see movie posters that dare to be different than the same generic designs.

I enjoyed bits of Darjeeling Limited but no Wes Anderson film has come close to Royal Tanenbaums for me.

Watched Eastern Promises the other night. Pretty good but a bit rushed at times. I liked the focus on the culture/traditions of Russian gangsters. Naomi Watts was pretty ordinary. Maybe it was her character that was too naive tho.

I quite liked Darjeeling limited as well but its all about the life aquatic. Didnt actually appreciate tenenbaums til I rewatched it after seeing Life Aquatic. Rushmore is pretty cool aswell.

so well done.. you should read the wiki on it. She says "i love you" in czech when they are walking by the ocean, but there are no subtitles! it changes to context of the scene. they are also all non-actors and did it for hardly anything, and grossed 14m. They are also a couple in real life. But gross age difference. She was like like 9 years old when he was 27!
.. so you know it's good

    Pineapple Express
    Out Thursday, 7 August 2008
Main Cast: Seth Rogan, James Franco, Amber Heard, Bill Hader, James Remar, Gary Cole, Rosie Perez

This looks like a quality movie, "for the stoners"
The guys who brought you Superbad reunite for the action-comedy Pineapple Express. Lazy stoner Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver (James Franco): to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express.

But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop (Rosie Perez) and the city’s most dangerous drug lord (Gary Cole), he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him. And it is.

As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they’re not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia; incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. All aboard the Pineapple Express.

I really identified with the main character, I've also been reading a lot of the books that inspired him (Paine, Trotsky, Hume etc) so understandably I was quite taken with the film. It was a very good adaptation, great supporting actors, inspiring story.

    You a massive narcissist aswell?

Seriously though I think it was superb. I read a few reviews and they say that the book presents the main character in a lot less favourable light. I kinda wondered about him in the movie...seemed to be really lionised by the film maker.

Just some really cool little characters and the ideal that he had about self sustinance is intriguing.

    His final revelation is heartbreaking.

Well, the actions he took were very self centred - and given his inspiration you'd think he might take up something that would be more productive and far reaching.

But I liked the part of the film that mourned the death of being self sufficient, of having access to nature and some of the freedoms we now seem to be protected from. I also very much identified with the anti consumerism, anti -become just another office drone- type sentiment.

Amazing and beautiful movie. So sad. The book it was based on is incredibly interesting.

i hope they make his character in the movie really dark, like how he was in the games..
could be good but, hitman turned out pretty shit so i wont expect much.

edit: watched the trailer, with sound (work comps dont have speakers). looks the goods, with mark wahlberg as the lead itll be hard to go wrong. plus they seem to have the character spot on in the trailer.

fair enough, still haven't seen hitman.

Hope it's a good movie. Just been feeling a bit shit today and the work I've got here to do right now is pretty mindless so having someone go OMG look at this, and then consequently watching it made me soooooo fucking happy.

Still need to play through Max Payne 2, got it sitting next to my PC, gotta install it and play it on 42" plasma ^______^

I watched Hitman last week on Bluray. Nice sound... the sub hits hard with most of the gunshots.
I no nothing of the game, so had no expectations about the movie. It's just another action flick with a wonky plot that is hard to figure out at times. There's a smoking hot Russian bird thrown in for good measure also. You get to see a lot of her

Just got back from Hellboy 2 and I must say I thought it was quite good, kept me gripped to the end even if I had to pee real bad!
