My dads favourite.. mashed tatties and canned corn beef. I used to sit at the table and cry when that was slopped on my plate because my mum made me eat at least half of what she put on the plate. She was a big fan of offal and tripe cooked in milk too. I cried a lot at our dinner table as a kid.

corned beef/silverside is actually quite nice if it's made properly.

it needs to be soaked for a few hours to get rid of the majority of the salt, then poached really slowly for a couple of hours so that it's evenly cooked and tender right through.

served with dumplings and steamed root veg, or with white sauce and roast onions it's real nice, but it should NEVER be eaten out of a can, or mashed. You should get nice, firm, tender slices off it, like a roast of beef. If you can mash it, it hasn't been cooked properly.

yes i'm aware of silverside being the real deal... please note how never mentioned silverside, as i'm aware this is "premium" meat...

but isn't the brisket well used for "corned beef"

Yeah I should have been clearer CORNED BEEF to me is the shit in the can (Hence the mashing with Tatties being only way to eat it) and I reccomend you try it in a SLICE (Short Crust Pastry) at least once it is really good.

SILVERSIDE to me is something totally different and I forgot some people (only in OZ I think ???) refer to them as one and another............... BIG UPS THE SILVERSIDE ALSO (with Parsley sauce)

Is that similar to the Burmese Style which is called something like (Mohinger). Khauswe is the other one I like.

I am a HUGE laksa fan but love my mates Mums (Burmese) version which she calls ^^^^ the best

Also a HUGE FAN of Balachung (spelling) WET OR DRY !!!!!!!!

boiled bacon has a similar kind of salty taste, I like that too. Tis not anything like normal rashers of bacon.

Thats exactly how I feel. Yesterday I had fruit for brekky, carrots at 10am, tuna salad for lunch, homemade fried rice for dinner and the whole time I was dreaming of a fat juicy 800g steak. I felt hungry 15 minutes after lunch, it sucks but I'm gonna stick at it.
