Reminds me of the old man getting his brand new Mazda ute serviced. I looked at the bill for 800 and laughed. Oil change plus about 20 "inspected" on the list. Best scam going if you ask me...Oh yeh and my work utes service before the recent one the fucking "mechanic" didn't tighten the sump plug! Only realised when I saw the oil trail

Yeah, only really concerned about accidentally spilling oil on the paved driveway where I'm renting. Clumsy's my middle name.

    Name dropper!

THe old boy works on a lot of mowers and shit like that, and nearly every second four stroke he comes across is so full of oil the crank case hydraulic locks if you pull the cord, and so are covered in shitty old oil and ting. He found there's a biodegradable degreaser from super cheap (Koala brand IIRC) and he cleans his stuff on the lawn, he's been doing it for about 3 years in the same spot, and while the lawn is darker there from all the oil, it's not dead.

i realise i'm a bit late with this but for messy work on cars it can be good to grab a couple of bits of carpet out of a dumpster behind the carpet places, put it under the car and it soaks up any spills, even cheaper than tarps

They're OZ's, just with black centres, not sold on the black contrasting the finished paint when it goes onbut im about to find out iguess..

no seam welding, cage will keep the internal seams together, and front, if it splits it splits ill sort it then, newer cars are stitched together very well in the factory, i've only seen them fail the spot welding if you hack out the majority of the rad support panel apart, and only a couple times so far.

Thats one of the aims, getting it finished and track sorted is a priority for now, ive got under tray templates, and mounting points sorted, so i will get onto sorting some carbon goods when the cash allows, but definitely going to rock up to the perth round of the series, and aim for the world time attack next year at eastern creek.. entries for this years are already filled, dang..

World time attack would be pretty awesome.
Not sure if it was your car or another (looked at to many on antilag) but did you spray the foam expander through the chassis to keen it rigid?

Camping in a Cube would be interesting, you don't feel you might want to just hit up the Ryokan's all the way down?

yeh i plan on hitting a few up every 3 days or so, im trying to not spend a great deal of money, as ryokans can get pretty expensive in comparison to hostels, but they are deff worth the extra money.

I had a friend who did it last year and he said he found that he could get a Ryokan for less than 10,000 a night with a brekky and guaranteed rowdy business man in the onsen. Being unsure if it is just you going or with someone it could be an option. He was hitting up the local tourist offices in each city he stayed at as they would do all the calling for him and get him some quality deals.

the dream of owning a nice classic pre 70s car will have to stay a dream, I am going to look at this 2004 Nissan maxima Ti on Wednesday, its priced around 11g i may offer 10 as it has higher then average kms the seller says freeway kms and as they are down south probably true,... seems like you get a nice car for the cost and I dont mind the look of this one, anyone ever owned / driven one before?

Driven them, they do everything well from what I experience comfortable able to be a bit quick, I just thought they were a bit dull to drive. Then again if it is going to be a car to get to and from work, or to and from the shops etc, perfectly fine. Although from memory I think the back seats are a bit average for headroom.

Make sure you take your golf clubs to see if they fit in the boot as friend who had one always used to complain about "trunk" space when we would go snowboarding.

If you're not going to be driving much and you're only after a shopping trolley come golf cart, why not look at getting a small car or a hatch? The Maxima seems quite l(b)arge. Can't imagine parking space in the apartment complex to be too generous either.

I really should get something more compact as I just brought a place off the plan and the car park does look small... but im sure if can squeeze a large 4 door in the 14 square mtr car bay

I change my mind to often I just need to go buy something

I knew a guy who was around 6'6" and drove a classic mini. Admittedly he did remove the back seat as the drivers seat was virtually touching the back bulkhead

I have a tendency to change cars more often than I change my daks, and my favourite thing in the entire world is being in a position to get the next one. Constantly browsing carsales might seem tedious now but the knowledge that you could any of a whole bunch of different cars is a nice feeling. Don't rush into buying something you're not completely sold on. I bought my vw because I was impatient, don't get me wrong I love it to bits but the week after a 1972 jag xjc came on the market for 6k and I was kicking myself!

Ps this is an xjc, not dissimilar to the one that got away:

Ive been thinking really hard about getting an RX8, I love rotarys and I want something made in the last decade as much as I would love a FD I also want to keep my license. So who has owned one or worked on one or anything that might help sway me?

    Dont buy one.
They have this stupid security system in it, say if you turn it on and take it in/out of your garage and turn it off then it will completely lock the ecu down, then have to take via tow truck to rotomotion to get it taken off. Bit silly as you might forget one day then you will be stuck

I talked to a guy that owned one once as I was at the petrol station next to him, and rather than filling it up with petrol he was filling it up with oil. I asked how often he did it, he said more often than he would like.

That probably isn't the case with 99% of them, he may have just been lucky.

RX8s are brilliant, ive worked on them, i know a few that have done over 200k kms that only needed the coils replaced, they can be very reliable (depending user knowledge/care) its how they won le mans!, i had a 1978 rx7 for a daily for 2 years, with the standard unrebuilt engine and i never had a problem, was the most reliable car i owned. Heat kills rotors which is why you will have issues with a turbo. as for the oil, rotarys are 2 stroke engines, they have an oil metering pump and will pump a tiny amount of oil into the fuel. the only reason people would put in oil with there fuel is if they are running an aftermarket ecu which wont run the OMP or if they have been misinformed that they must put oil in regardless.
the price on the 03-04 models has dropped significantly and you can pick a decent one up for $17-19k, ide reccomend getting rotomotion to do a vehicle inspection/compression test and ask them their opinion on the rx8 and if its the car for you.

i cut my teeth on rotors, they are fucking bawse i cant wait to own another.
