    hey guys,

i'm kinda stuck as for what to do next with the forerunner conversion...

Moving the engine mounts forwards didn't solve it, the engine is too high for the trans tunnel as well.

i'm thinking the best way to go from here would be to cut the engine mounts out, lower the engine in with the transmission attached as well, line it all up so everything is clear of the body/diff/tunnel etc, and then figure out where the mounts need to be sitting in order to hold that.

anyone else had experience with doing a conversion that's never been done before (or at least i can't find any info on the engine mounts situation...) and encountering difficulties like this?

i was looking at getting one of those boxsters too, they look a lot more than the 60k odd they cost, it's just unfortunate that they have the power of a ride-on lawnmower.

They are $119,000 from new, they have the power, just cant compare them to turbo charged cars or worked V8's

They are just a goodlooking safe, reliable, classy type car.

i meant 60kish now, if you're looking around a 2001 model, less if you don't mind k's. i've seen shit ones for as low as 36. is yours the 2.7 or 3.2?

ps nobody should buy a porsche because it's safe, reliable, and/or because it's slower than a turbocharged car.

pps shit giving aside, they are good fun, good luck getting let in in heavy traffic though haha

Cause with 4wd cars, its all about the torque, rotors are good for power, but they're not the best for torque, especially down low...

    simple as that really..

give it a bash if you want, its just not something id look into unless it was using a 20b as they where a considerably torqier motor than a 12a/13b ever was

Honestly, I would consider the i30 diesel.

Does everything you need, looks good, will last (I think, being a diesel) and not too expensive.

I think I have been scarred by the excel when it comes to hyundai, I saw one of those the other day and was really suprised when I realised who it was made by - silly I know. Decent looking car, something i've kept in mind, though i'm still not keen on a hyundai for some reason..

Yeah I was going to say, i'd have to figure out how many k's you'd get to a litre compared to fuel, if the same, winner, if less then it wouldn't be as economical. Isn't diesel like 30/40 cents more per litre? Could be expensive.

Sorry but I think the excel was/is a piece of shit, probably unreasonable to judge these because of that though haha. I don't know a lot about cars, obv.

How much do they go for? a 2006 ford fiesta looks like I could get an auto for maybe less than 12, cheaper if manual obviously, I understand why but I hate how it's so much more for auto. Should get my manual license just to save a few k but i'd probably spend 1k on lessons

Hyundai excel's are cheap throw away cars. If you want to keep it long term I wouldn't buy any korean car (daewoo, hyundai, kia etc). If you want a good car, buy japanese or euro. Nissan, toyota, honda etc. BMW, Merc, Audi etc for the euro's. The basic model Honda civics aren't very expensive and they have a good resale value. The new BMW 1 series basic model is a little over $35K I think but I was told the resale isn't as good.

my thoughts exacty really. last longer too etc.

I have realised I enjoy driving littler zippy cars now that i've tried a few, and they're more economical, a jimny is small but it won't be as fuel efficient because of the shape etc, other things.

and the ford fiesta 06? thoughts?

I don't get why I use the wrong words all the time and miss joining words etc when I type++++, maybe think faster than type, I only do it on ts though don't get it, weird.. there's a word for what I mean, it that escapes me atm..

    Or just careless.

I love my Fords. My current car and previous car have both been great. They just keep on truckin', and parts are cheap...(not that you would, but don't get a Taurus though...parts are so fuckin' expensive.)

I don't know much about the fords, I havent heard anything bad. My friend has a ford focus as her and fiance's daily driver. They know alot about cars, so they wouldn't buy shit. I have only heard bad things about the Holden small cars because they use the Opel motor (from the UK) so parts are really expensive.

Have you looked at a toyota yaris or corolla? They are very reliable cars.

but there are more and more being imported

and halu, fiesta's are awesome little cars. people still confuse them for the old festiva's which were korean made, buckets of snot. obviously someone opinion you don't know about a car isnt going to change much on whether you get one, so for your sake...get a manual licence, its so much more fun

Re: Diesel, not sure if it is worth it. Sure you get more for your money, but it does cost a lot more and in the long run, petrol would be a better choice. Don't forget resale value and what people think about diesel. There was something else I was going to say. But a Beautiful car the current generation is!

The Golf is a great car, well I haven't really driven anything lower spec then the GTi with DSG.

But the Jetta now has the 7 sp DSG, fark they're nice! Just a 4 door Golf.

But wait for the 2009 Golfs, the GTi and the GTi-R with newer engines and 7sp DSG box.

dude you are talking smack if you think petrol is better in the long run. petrol can't be made, only found. deisel can be manufactured from a wide range of sources and thus is a more secure option in the long term for when oil supplies run out.

Ethanol can power petrol engines and that can be grown/made.
But yeah it's all pie in the sky IMO, battery/fuel cell/whatever cars will be the norm in 10 years i reckon. Bout fucking time too.

after the bullshit ive had with my oct 06 BF falcon waggy ill never get another ford again

160thou (the other falcon wag i was driving while mine was getting fixed) whole HVAC system crapped out. No radio, air controls, demister etc - $1500 to fix from ford
140thou (current) doesnt like cold starts anymore
135thou - gas guage is erratic and when idling will drop to empty then climb up slowly once car is moving - fucked sensor
    130thou - blown diff. New one $3990
    120thou - bonnet release snapped
100thou - drivers seatbelt wouldnt retract
90thou - car starts to missfire and drop a cylinder every so often
50thou - all 4 steel rims warped / buckled - havent hit anything ever
10thou - rear seatbelt guid comes away from trim
1thou - car wouldnt run properly - ecu problem

its a shame, as other then the quality its a comfortable car to drive day to day. Car is always serviced every 10thou and 99% of these kays are constant driving not stop start

I understand this is ignorant but I thought it would depend on the car?

I didn't even realise fiestas were German.

Yeah I would choose a golf straight up but they're just out of my budget, by a long shot. 1st car especially

A friend had a 2006 ford fiesta and I still remember it being the only little car i've REALLY liked, I only put two and two together when I asked her what hers was recently, same car I keep eyeballing other than the vw

I don't like them really, I know they're good cars but if i'm going to spend that much i'd still choose the fiesta.

I don't think i'd buy any of those cars also because they're EVERYWHERE, the next person to tell me to get a getz the same as there's or their sisters... ergh, I think they're ugly and I could go to a carpark and take 10 mins to work out which one is mine, hyundai to boot.

They look good quality, the fiesta that is.

Interesting you say that as we've had nothing but problems with our commodore utes at work and the falcons havn't skipped a beat (so far).

Not to mention the pathetic level of service from a certain gosnells holden dealer.

Fucking bucket of shit they are. Holden: two thumbs down

    lol Birt.

I'll need to buy another car towards the end of the year, but am limited to around 20-22K.
I can find absolutely nothing I like in that price range. Well I can, but they're still pushing 10 years old and done far too many km's. I'm not keen on buying an import from photos alone or buying an Australian made boat...

I'd like to remain having a sports car, but I know that I'll just end up spending money on it and it's not really practical for transporting my mountain bike around. I really want a Mitsubishi Evo, but I think I'm going to have to go with something a little more understated, but still want something fun to drive.

    Car hunting sucks.

Yeh I've been looking at them, but tidy ones are 10k more than that.
    There's some for 25k through imports101...

i dislike imports101, wouldnt reccomend him to noone

My mate got his chaser through iron chef, u can save 10-20k by using an importer then buying an already imported car.

example, 2002 rx7's sell in yards for 39-45k.....i know i can import one for around 27k including all associated import costs

worth checking out if u have the time (takes about 6-8 weeks to get ur car)

After reading some reviews today, I'm really starting to like the new Honda Civic Type-R.
Not sure I can justify going into debt for 40 grand however. On the flipside, I'm better off doing it now whilst I have less expenses.

I'm leaning toward a new vehicle so that I can secure the loan against the car should anything go tits up. Then I just have to choose a car that won't depreciate as quickly as most, just in case the bank or I need to sell it off.
