I'm seriously considering trading the liberty on a vw amaroc. I have a requirement to tow > 2000kgs now and Subaru
don't make anything that will do it. 2.8% finance and free servicing is looking like sealing the deal too. Anyone got one?? Driven One? Opinions?

Out of curiosity i had a look at GT-Rs on the J-spec imports websites linked somewhere between the drama. I can't beelieve it, 2008 gt-r fully landed is still 100k. I was always under the impression jap imports were cheap cheap :/

They were about 8 years or so ago when the dollar was getting over 100 yen. You also won't be able to import that gtr unless you have a certain cam licence, you also won't be able to drive it on the street/register it

It used to be cars older than 15 years, then they changed it and now it needs to be cars that have been individually certified I think. I am probably wrong.

I understood it was only cars that were not originally available here through local dealerships.

They're quite strict on the ownership for one year thing too. It's not good enough that you owned it, you need to have driven it regularly and stored it locally to your home. I looked into it as a mate was coming back from a stint in the UK and a Lotus was looking pretty cheap.

I was saying that the series 2 Calais v rims suit the car very well, but after seeing what rims you have, it isn't a big deal. I thought you were going to get a lot worse rims than what you ended up with

I can provide you the shopping list from my Audi a B6 Quattro, great car just lots of things needed to be fixed, and if you get the 6 or the 8 please make sure someone has done the timing belt before you purchase it, that service alone I cry at the thought of it.

If you can do the work yourself, of course it cuts down the cost. The big one is the timing belt and that is mostly for the labor. On our A4 we had the front suspension bushing go more than once on both sides, the power steering pump, seals in the differential and the gearbox were ones that stick out.

BUT and it is a but, my wife still talks about how much she loved the Audi and has only just come to enjoy the Saab but that is more because of its hard life than anything else.

However the benefit to me in the Audi is the AWD snow mobile skills and the heated seats which probably isn't going to get you far in Perth.

i realise that's vague but i've had a few cars and they've never required thousands of dollars of repairs

I have a 2000 b5(6?) a4 1.8t. Cost me a bees dick under $15k. Bought it at 80k, and got them to do the major service (replace timing belts, anything that needed the engine to be opened) as a condition of purchase, plus some odds and ends. Only thing I have had to replace so far is the front lip, which was $250ish installed. Servicing wasnt too bad, with the 90k costing me under $250. I have to use 95ron fuel though.

I think my experience has been on the better end of things. I have heard some stories like birts about thousands of dollars of repairs, but I havent hit that yet.

I really really enjoy driving my car. If you get one checked out before you buy it and its got solid internals then why not?

The B5 has a better pedigree when it comes to repairs than the B6, and a lot less plastic parts. Also difference between the 4 and the 6 and 8 also makes a difference in regards to time spent on the "repairs".

Yeah, I have the 2.6L V6 A4 B5. I like it a lot and its drives well since its lowered and has S4 18"s on it. I've had to have a few things done ($800 major service, $1100 new injectors) but overall its been a good car. I probably will get rid of it soon though as its getting old and stuff breaks and I will get either a E90 3 series BMW or B7 A4 or RX8, still trying to decide.
