    Exclamation Ask Teknoscape

This should be a cool little tool considering Teknoscape has thousands of brains and combined, hundreds of years of experience. Given some of those brains need upgrading.

I cant get any working, they won't connect. I have a DSL wireless router with TCP/UDP port 6881 added to the router firewall exceptions and they still dont fucking work. I uninstalled Nortons in fury and frustration, I have run VET, NAV and Housecall, plus Adaware and Spybot and the PC appears clean as a whistle.

    What the hell is wrong?

Turn off all software firewals (inbcluding the inbuilt windows one), you dont need them.

also dont bother running spyware things all the time, if you use firefox and keep windows up to date you will only need to run it once a week or less. I run mine once a week and it never pics up anything and my computer never runs bad.

The only software you want running 24/7 is a AV program that updates its databse off the net every hour or day or whatever.

download and install azureus and change the port to something like 61111 or anything that isnt the default port. Now go into your router settings and forward the port tcp/udp 61111 and for the ip use your machines ip addres.

for example mine is 10.1.1.2 it is important you get this right.

this is all you have to do, you can test if the port is open from within azureus, i think in that connection wizard thing it runs.

I was going to make this exact thread! - I have heaps of odd little questions and bits of trivia that I'm sure someone must know the answer to. Here's the first one...

    FIBRE IN MULTIGRAIN BREAD
I'm told that you get good fibre from multigrain/fullgrain bread... do you get the fibre/benefit just from the grains going though your system, or do you have to actually chew up the grains?

When you're tired why do you feel it in your eyes, and why does closing your eyes relieve that feeling - is it just an action that tells your body to rest - or is it actually doing something? maybe we need something we could inject or rub on our eyes that would remove that feeling (different to physically feeling tired), so we could stay up and active for longer

When I was younger I found a neat trick that did something like that

Lick your finger and then rub it on your eyelid, it kinda makes your eyelids stick open. Maybe it's just a placebo thing but I used to find it helped me stay awake.

Keep in mind this is before I started anything like work or uni or dancing all night or really anything beyond playing videogames at midnight. I dunno how well it would combat those things.

The benefits of the fibre in multi-grain bread are many.
Some include: There is a layer of protien between the husk and the starchy pulp of the grain (talking, for example, about wheat, barley or oats) which is lost in the refining process used for white bread. Obviously in multigrain bread, the grains are not refined and this layer is left, which gives you a different type of protien in your diet. (it is important to get diff types)

The obvious one is the extra fibre in it. This is mainly in the husk of the grain itself, and it doesn't matter if you chew the motherfucker or not, because whether you do or do not, whatever fibre can't be processed by your stomach or small intestine is then sent to the large intestine where it is fermented by bacteria which are present. This process creates good chemicals (nice, big, not too stinky farts) which can work against chemicals (really bad small stinky farts) created by digestion of meat, which can tend to be carcinogenic and can lead to bowel cancer. Fibre will also increase the water content of ur turds, which makes for an easier time in the morning. Which is one of the reasons why it's not only important to eat multi grain bread, but also lots of veges, especially when you eat meat. Veges have alot of the same "resistant" starch, which can only be digested by the fermentation pracess in the large intestine.

If you choose to eat one of the "nine grains" breads or something similar, they also contain such things as poppy seeds, linseed and soybeans, which go into a whole branch of phytoestregens, lycopenes and chemistry which i really don't know enuff about to comment.

just believe me when i say that they are good, and you should eat them (not only coz they taste yum, but coz they're good for you) and it doesn't really matter whether you chew them lots of hardly at all, unles ur prone to choking. I don't want that on my conscience.

After a mobile phone has been wet, is it fixable? Mine was in the line of fire of a cup of tea, ive tasken it apart to dry it but it wont switch on again. If it is fixable is it expensive or should i just get another phone?

i think its basically just that like every organ in your body, the eyes need rest. they arent meant to be open for such long periods, they need that 8 hours a night where they are refreshed and rested and kept moist by the fluid underneath the lid.

Take all the pieces apart (ie: if it's a Nokia then take off the front and back covers, keypad, the battery, SIM card, etc) and just leave it in the sun for a while.

You might have a bit of trouble with this weather though. If you have a little foot heater that might do the trick. Don't stick it in the oven or whatever though.

PS: Good idea for a thread, Scotty. Now we can round up all the little questions into one big thread instead of having a new thread everytime someone wants to ask "Hey does anyone know where I can buy chocolate poptarts anymore?"

PPS: Does anyone actually know where I can buy chocolate poptarts anymore? My local Coles, Action, and Supa-Valu have all stopped stocking them. They're my favourite stoned treat!

Behind the battery there should be a little plastic looking white tab. That is the immersion indicator. If any part of it has gone pink, or any colour other than solid white, there's not a phone fixer aroounf who will touch it. I learnt this the hard way with my 3 month old motoroloa earlier this year.

Actually I don't know why I didn't think of that, weren't there eyedrops for sale sometime that were supposed to refresh you/wake you up

baking soda can be used on its own with a bit of water as a toothpaste alternative
its supposed to also have a whitening effect
however - its also apparently very abrasive to your teeth and wears away the enamel if used on a daily basis

i went swimming with mine on boxing day last year........pulled it apart and dried everything out in front of a little air heater thing. a few hours later it started semi-working - it would work for a while then go all flickery and turn off. managed to get all the phone stored stuff out of it during this time. but then it started working properly and then lasted about 3 months before it carked it completely, luckily i still had everything written down.

mine was a nokia 2100 i think, hell primitive basic peice of shit. dunno how more complex phones will handle it. but its pretty standard that all phones have water indicators and if that has been triggered nobody will fix it. once the circuit board gets wet it just rusts away until the phone don't work no more.

Nah just a humble Celly. Any P2P program I run does not connect, it tells me it's a DNS or ISP problem which is rubbish. I have a 1500kbps iiNet DSL connection with all ports needed for the transfer available through both XP and my Netgear Router's firewall. Only thing that wroks are torrent style applications. They do the job mostly but searching for single MP3's is not as easy as with K-Lite or Soulseek.

as an addition to the teeth question: baking soda is useful for getting dirt off many things - tea/coffee stains, anything burnt onto stainless steel, making jewellery sparkle, etc

English live in England. Britain refers to the United Kingdom, ie England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. All English are British, but not all British are English. The funny thing is that nobody within Britain likes to be called British. If you're from England, you're English (before British), if you're from Wales you're Welsh, hell if you're from Cornwall you're Cornish before you're British.

Strange people the British, they all smell the same to me.

Well this is the thing, I've only ever heard English refer to themselves as British or Brits. Never heard Irish, Scots or Welsh refer to themselves as British.
