    dear teknoscape,

how do i output my computer to my tv (i.e. get AV out of my computer). Do i need a special card? Id prefer to be able to see my monitor and my tv output simultanously.

    Cheers

You need hardware. your gfx card may have an svideo output (more likely) or an rca output (less likely) in which case it is figuring out the settings in the gfx card software.
If you dont have video out on your gfx card you can buy one that does or you can buy a scan converter.

I bought a low end scan converter 5 years ago for about $200. They must be cheaper by now. it outputs 800x600. it is a small box that sits between your gfx card and monitor cable. it has svideo out and rca out - you just run a cable to your tv and it duplicates whatever is on your screen.
dont forget that tv's are a lower resolution than computer monitors.

    audio
soundcard out -> tv audio input.

if you have an LCD TV, get a HDMI cable (as long as your GFX card can support it). Theyre a bit pricey but def. worth it.

I am in the market for a man-bag to hold books, notes and other junk.
Already have a backpack and a technics record/courier bag.

    Seen any good ones?
Also does anywhere stock Eastpak bags in Perth? I haven't seen any, they are practically indestructible!

Yes - supermarkets. I get some from coles. Fridge section. Not with the other cheeses its with all the tofu/vegetarion stuff.

I do. I do it at my local rec centre. Its wonderful. There is like 5 min of relaxation at the end, but youll get that at most places.
Youll find most rec centres will have decent classes on offer, casual or term programs.

aaah that's the word I needed: 'USB'!!! I would be so eternally grateful if I could borrow it. I work in Como but could pick it up on my way home tonight?

I know noone with a floppy disk drive anymore. Our work computers dont have them either.
