Default What Book are you reading?

Inspired by all the other "what are you doing now threads", I thought I might start one for people to tell us what they're reading at the moment.

I'm reading the Basic Writings of Nietzche, or at least, I will be starting to read it in about 5 mins.

    So, what are you reading?

Holy mother of gawd. I was literally just about to make 1 of these threads hahaha. I was actually gonna make a suggest books thread, but this is close enough.

I pretty much have always read fantasy books. I've read the Raymond E Fiest series (starting from Magician all the way to the books prior to his newest releases (13 all up)) 3 times. Magician by Raymond E Fiest is my all time favourite book. The way it's written, the way it hooks you in....

I'm reading Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time book 1 atm. Enjoying it a fair bit....

Once I get through this series though, I'm pretty much looking on wanting to expand my horizons.

Anyone got any suggestions on books that REALLY stand out to them?

i realise some people may find the subject matter flighty or amusing but it's very interesting.

What's it about? Obviously don't ruin the story but what sort of setting are we looking at here? While my Bateman knows what he's talking about (clearly!) a rough sorta background on the book would be good.

In other words I don't want to be reading romance novels. Not my thing

Re-reading this for the umpteenth time at the moment! I haven't met a single person who hasn't loved it. Neil Gaiman is brilliant.

Also re-reading American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. Not sure how long that will last - enough time has passed that I'd forgotten how badly that book does my head in!

Time for some new reading material methinks.

just to reiterate what has been established for 50 years, lord of the rings is the best book ever except for the part where frodo and sam trudge through the marshes, and the movies are shithouse

Hmmm you know LotR is 1 of those things.... In terms of the way it's written and it's descriptiveness or whatever, LotR is by far the best book I've ever read. But in terms of entertainment.... Hmmm... The "wars" in the book just seem to go too fast. Don't get me wrong, I love the book to pieces, I'm a fanboi, but entertainment wise I reckon there's books out there that are more entertaining. Ones that make me want to turn the page

My Story by David Pelzer, A Child Called It combined with two sequels. I don't claim to be any good with words but I have come to a point in the book where the writing is driving me nuts. Little things even in punctuation etc, like bolding a word every sentence or two when it really isn't necessary, italics, bad sentence structure, too many commas, it just doesn't read well at all. Touching story but by god, bad writer.

2/3 of the way there, I shall be glad to get it over with, frustrating.

Um, i came in here to make a thread like this!

must be the weather for reading!, lol i was cranking my book last night on the lounges and at the bar of breaking point.

    Currently reading

Jennifer Fallon, an australian lady from alice springs.
Medalon: Book one of the demon child Trilogy

    fuck its good

i'm probably going to read every one of her books too, they are extremely complex and winding, all of her trilogies are set in the same world intertwining like vines on a wall.

We need to collectively admit that we’re not fine. We’re not confident and balanced and good. We turn up to work every day pretending we’re not neurotic and obsessed and insatiable and full of doubt. And we waste so much energy keeping up this mutual pretence for each other because we think if people saw the truth, if people really knew what was going on in your head, all the crazy truth of your dark appetites and self-loathing, then you’d get rejected.

But, in fact, the opposite is true. It’s when we dare to reveal the truth that we unwittingly give everyone else permission to do the same. To stop holding their breath for a moment and actually come into the room. To be here, present, vulnerable and authentic.

Hahaha that's exactly what I did! I'm the same as you. All of it up till the newer stuff. Need to get around to reading them. But before I do I'll probably go and read them all again haha. The beginning of Magician is just my favourite. Their childhood.... Man it was cool, all the stuff before their actual Journey.

Have you you or Sketch read the Princess series from the POV of the Tsuranuani on Kelewan? Daughter of Empire, etc. 3 of them. I LOVED those books. They were all the politics of that world, was so cool.

I love the magician too! but there seems to be so many feist books written with the minor characters as leads in the same story- is he milking it?

just finished any human heart by william boyd, thoroughly enjoyable. need a new book.
