I think I have used this analogy before, but you know the old "there's plenty of fish in the sea" saying. Well, dating is like fishing. Each time you catch something and it's not the right one, you put it back. But with each catch you learn how to fish a little better, and you learn what type of fish you are looking for. Then one day you're technique is so refined, or you are that lucky, that the right fish comes along.

That or you get aids and die young.

Hahaha I think I've been on both sides of that fence. Relationships are all about interaction though so there's generally alot of helping going on from both sides. I'm not going to make all kinds of references to the people I've been with or anything, but that's what makes human life so dang interesting. You get partnered up with someone and every day you learn some new aspect of their character, something new about what makes them tick.

I like to think that Miss Mego and I have a really really good balance. I stress over a lot of shit these days and she keeps me calm a lot more than I'd really like to admit, and I'm there for her when the world isn't fair and she gets the short end of the stick.

It's all a rich tapestry and for that i am thankful

i wanted to dispute the "girls hope they can be the one to change him" thing but then i remembered the one "bad boy" (emotionally unvailable) relationship i was in, thats exactly what i was doing. i didnt know it at the time, but after the fact i realised thats what kept me there and i facepalmed myself so hard i almost broke my nose.

i agree with geisha. you tend to grow out of being attracted to bad boys (as in EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLE, not just rugged looking with a couple of bad tatts). sure, you might bang them, date them a couple of times, but you wouldn't really actively pursue a relationship because you know you ain't gonna get what you want from them long term. but hey - we've all been there, chasing someone who you know doesn't really give a shit about you and treats you like shit but is way hotter than all your friend's boyfriends and everyone thinks he's really cool so you just put up with it. the last time i did that i was about 20 years old though.

it takes a pretty big conscious decision sometimes (it did for me, anyway) to actually relinquish that "control" (adhering the dating "rules") and just following what you feel/want to do naturally.

amusingly, the relationship where i did follow ALL the dating/girlfriend "rules" was actually my least successful! that was a headfuck and a half and the moment when i realised the "rules" were all completely bullshit (i mean i somewhat knew that beforehand, but you know)
