Actually reading into it more it seems you cant buy one without signing a contract on the spot. They don't want people to buy one and crack it for their own network like everyone has done with the current model.
Fuck that. I don't want to go with the carrier they have chosen because they all SUCK!

I need a new phone but dont think im interested in an iPhone
Im pretty loyal with Nokias, just had a look at the N82... anyone know good or bad things about these?

I just want one for $199 (or aud equivalent) and just use my Vodafone sim![]()
so it's 3G only not dual band like with current 3G phones? which basically means when the 3G coverage is crap, that's it, it can't switch to the GSM900 network........yeah, that's a good idea. also the lock in plan with a specific carrier for 2 years is pure apple all the way. apple can't really expect to make much impact in the overseas market if it plans to operate like the US. nokia will eat them alive.
ishhhh

optus just released their price plans for the iphone, typical of Australian telco provider prices really...
8GB iPhone 3G (Black)= $729Plus, connect to Optus Pre-Paid and receive $400 Bonus + 1GB internet browsing PLUS recharge with $40 or more on Turbo Cap and receive EXTRA BONUS data every time you recharge!
16GB iPhone 3G (Black or White)= $849
To get you started Optus Pre-Paid is offering a special offer - unlimited mobile internet browsing on Turbo Cap^ until 31 August 08.
So its good that the price is not double for the 16 model, I think that its actually cheap for the handset itself, really cheap considering what your getting, but the data plans could be a lot better.
The $199US that was stated by apple is the subsidised price that AT&T are selling them for, which they are running at a loss after buying them off apple.
Very complicated considering its just a phone, THE BEST PHONE (SOON TO BE COMPUTER) EVER!!
I cant wait till next friday morning, firstly to get in on my current voda sim, an secondly to buy another one and learn to crack it, so that i can start selling them on!
Hmm I would say that's kinda pricey, but then again it does blow every other phone in the world completely out of the water.
I'm off the the US next week.. may bring a few of those $199 numbers back to sell.

I've considered the IPhone but I think I'm gonna wait for the BlackBerry Bold 9000

Its only 199 from AT&T that price being made able by the fact that they make the cost back in you signing the contracts, so essentially they arnt that price!
When you look at what nokia charge for their latest phone i think that its pretty fair, especially considering that this is the newest for of computer systems, we have Mac OSX, Windows and soon to be iphone 2.0.
I would like for it to be cheaper, of course i would but when you look at the market and see that its under a $1000, i think that its fair.
Im interested to see if apple re-seller get to sell them outright an if so what price, especially now that the apple store has openned in syd, I cant see them not selling them, and you would think that store like DigiLife and NextByte woudl need to be able to sell them.

Expect a heap of 2nd hand iTouches to come onto the market in the next few weeks.
Hey guys, what mobile has a really good camera on the market atm?
thanks![]()
pwned.
See the fine print. It says $199.
Why do I even bother.

I would have felt like a goose owning one of those.
Oh! An iPhone! WOW!
No it's just a touch
O2 UK charges don't seem to be too foul. £75/month, free phone, 3000 minutes, 500 texts, unlimited data.
£45 a month plan and the 16gB costs £59. 8gB is free.
Guess I might give O2 a crack![]()

Ok fucknuts. Let me explain it again. You buy the iPhone at the Apple Store. It is sealed and not activated.
You can do whatever you want with it and are not obligated to activate it with AT&T. Hence the millions of unlocked iPhones out there.
Let me know if you want one.
Then again, fuck you.

I think the nokia n82 has one of the best at the moment, with excellent xenon flash. Probably on par with an entry level 5mp standalone camera. Chunky phone though, but doesn't look too bad with a black cover.
iPhone is interesting, but could have used a more significant update featurewise. I'll be hitting up the Nokia E71, which is supposedly out through Optus July 10th. I don't think I could live without a proper qwerty pad now.

That was the case with the original iPhone. I know, because thats what I did.
Apparently with the 3G model this is no longer the case.
I posted a page or so back saying that I'd heard they weren't letting you leave the store without it being on a plan and activated.

OK, ignorant fool, keep on not listening and look like a "poor, ignorant fool" when you walk into an apple store with a $199US in coins collected on the street, asking for a brand new iphone, "but that what the small print says" haha, idiot.
official realease from AT&T
"the unsubsidised price of an iPhone (US$399 for 8GB, US$499 for 16GB), and the unlocked, unsubsidised price of the iPhone (US$599 for 8GB, US$699 for16GB)"
But nah, hook me up with one of your special ones aye!!
and if you feel like educating yourself for once read up:

no no you see apple and at&t are so stupid they'll let you walk out with your $200 phone and not activate the plan, so they lose a huge amount of money! they really are dumb enough to allow this to happen! they totally haven't thought about this ingenious plan of not activating the plan and just putting in someone elses sim card!
pffft

yeah same, ill be getting mine early next friday morning, but it does surprise me how people after looking at the current phone/gadget market can think that they would be getting such a powerful device for so cheap!
optus officially said they are selling the handset outright for $849(16GB) and the 8GB ipod nano retails for 249 so that means that the iphone will definatly cost youat least $800, but i hope that people in the US work somethin out an can sell them on ebay for around the 600 mark...
.. so you know it's good
Qwerty.
Can't record video or send mms tho.... i guess they expect you to email everything?
install opera mini. just beware it won't be included in your blackberry 'internet' plan, it'll be charged at whatever normal data rates your carrier uses. personally I can't stand the tie in required with a blackberry to a carrier, ie no prepaid etc. e71 is the alternative to my mind.
@iphone qwerty, it's nowhere near as fast as a physical qwerty keyboard. i'm looking forward to checking them out when it hits, but if theres nothing significant over the 2g model i don't think i'll be bothering.

edit: the sony one looks awesome. i'm such a sony fanboi atm.......geez.
ishhhh
The Sony is actually an HTC product with a Sony badge.
I cant believe the bullshit plans that Vodafone put out the other night, hopefully as they have pulled them down its not actually going to be the real plans, coz basically they are chargin twice as much as optus for the plans, and more to buy the phone outright.
It seems so stupid to me why vodafone would do this, i only hope that the price plans they put up were their initial thoughts and not actually what they are goin to offer, because if that is the case i think they will loose a few customers.
I also read an article yesterday saying that Australia will only be getting an initial 80,000 iphones, and both optus an telstra have both said that from peoples interests on their website, they expect to sell out within hours of release, with both having "sold out" signs already printed!
Not happy at all, coz im still not sure how im goin to get mine as i dont wanna be locked in for 24 months purely because i think that much better data plans will be released within that time!!
