So we've lost Strikeforce, Sengoku and DREAM in under a week. Wtf?

Sengoku lost their major sponsor and is in serious jeopardy, and DREAM's parent company FEG is doing some major restructuring and no more events are planned at this time. On the other end of things, M-1 Global just signed a new TV deal with Showtime but who really cares about Vladimir Kritzkov vs Vladimir Kasperov. I think it might be time to check out Bellator, they've been putting on some good cards lately from the sounds of it.

    exactly

they have carved themselves out a little niche market though with having a tourney style company, plus its shown on MTV2 which is pretty good, but considering the talent pool they have, its pretty weak.

Bellator will only go as long as their sponsors hold up.

Err how? Strikeforce is still holding its heavyweight tourney, and for the first time it maybe available on PPV.

Strikeforce has another two year contract with Showtime which is said to be continued.. Why you crying? Enjoy the next two years.

didnt think it was the greatest fight - jones just owned him - inspiring kid, just makes me wanna train n learn. hopefully rua come back strong i didnt think he looked great - dont know what his game plan was??? but like iron mike says - everybody got a plan til they get punched in the head - like to silva vs jones as opposed to gsp silva, silva always dangerous n composed off his back - hendo, sonnen, luter

from my limited time watchn mma - im startn to think its gone full circle - started with royce n bjj, then turned to being bad, big, heavy handed - all the chute boys, brock, chuck - now gone back to not so much bjj but more precision striking - silva, conditioning - gsp, all round game - jones, cain - mad respect 4 mr brown pride 121 sit in the pocket take the brock rush n then just turn it around - knee on the chest feeding him leather sandwiches - bad man, love that fight

Whats everyones thoughts on Sheilds vs GSP? Yes, TRIbe we know you think GSP is going to win. Fact is a lot of people will.

I feel jake sheilds is getting counted out though, the guy pretty much lays around and finger bangs too, but he has good submissions and gnp, could be a tough job if GSP doesnt get roided up.

Everyone is looking past sheilds for the moment, would be sweet if he beats gsp.

Jose Aldo vs Hominick, wow. I cant call it :/ too tough, this is the fight i am waiting for!

I hope Machida beats randy for the simple reason that he keeps his job, the guy is going to be pretty desperate for a win, the fact is though, randy will probably out wrestle him to a UD

Also Bendo is back on this card I hope he gets another shot at pettis, stupid matrix kick meant shit but stole him the fight WAR BENDO!

couldnt giv a flying fuk about gsp badr - respect him for being extremely fit n a mad athlete or maybe yeah he just juiced but boring mofo- finish somebody already- i cant see him losing 3 rounds to shields though - but only takes a split second to lock something in - but generally gsp = money in the bank, looking forward to seeing aldo fight

I think GSP will beat Jake Shields. I don't believe that Jake Shields has the ability to stop GSP take downs, and I don't believe that Shields works his BJJ best off his back. I think we will look to see GSP take this one and set a super-fight with Anderson Silva later this year.

A friend and I tried the UFC stream off their website for $40 on the weekend.

It's well worth it, HD quality, very little buffering interruption, and it is fairly interactive, you can change camera angles etc.
Definitely will be doing that from now on when I'm in Aus for events, UFC at Burswood is a farce I don't enjoy that place at all, it's almost 100% dickheads.
I don't watch tv enough to buy foxtel, and I always manage to get spoiled if I download it after the event.
Glad there is an alternative way of watching it in Australia live now!

Not sure why people are upset at other orgs folding or being bought out?
It makes sense, the best basketball players go to the NBA, if another league started up, unless they had billions of dollars to rival the NBA it would die.. same with MMA, there can only be 1 top dog and it is the UFC.

I want to see the best in the world in one place, there will always be regional/farm leagues for upcoming talent, but unless you want MMA to go the same direction as boxing, hundreds of corrupt, greedy promoters and big fights never happening(mayweather v pacquiao anybody?), the UFC has been doing the right thing as far as I am concerned, acquiring or sending rivals out of business.
Now they basically have all the best guys in the one place, only 2 people I really want to see in the UFC/Zuffa now is Hector Lombard and Eddie Alvarez from Bellator.

As for Shields vs GSP, I do not see it going any other way GSP is good enough to keep the fight where he wants it to be, really it is as simple as that, Shields might have better submissions and *might* get the odd takedown, but GSP will win decisively, and I suspect Shields will be leg kicked and jabbed into a bloody mess.

The Brook Tavern in Ellenbrook has recently opened, their sports bar holds UFC main events.

    yeah exactly, it's bullshit

As much as the UFC can be cunts to people who get on their bad side, they are not even in the same league of cunt as Don King.

Yeah, I believe there was a "watch UFC" link for the event, cost $40 and accepted Paypal! It's seriously worth it if you have a few mates who are into MMA, assuming your internet is up to scratch.

I don't drink so it's not really an incentive.

The stream is normally really shitty quality and buffers a lot on the free sites.

I prefer paying considering it's guys who are risking their health for my entertainment, and a lot of them can't even make enough to train full time, not like this is movie studios crying poor, I have no qualms downloading movies, but would personally like to see MMA grow and the guys get paid what they deserve.
It's only $10 or so if you have a few friends chip in.

Fired? The UFC own Strikeforce after the recent acquisition. So Nick Diaz will be renewing his contract with Zuffa.

Should be interesting to see what happen come the end of the Strikeforce contracts, which I believe is 3-4 fights away.

I think they could come up with some quality match-ups.

The UFC acquired Strikeforce last month, so Nick Diaz would be renewing his contract with the UFC.

Once the Strifeforce contracts run out, it should be interesting to see what happens, I will assume something similar to what happened with the WEC.

I think they could certainly pull some great cards with the quantity and quality of fighters they have now.

Nick Diaz is a gangsta, totally embarrassed Paul Daley in yesterday's fight.

Would like to see him take on GSP soon. That would be great!

Too much boring assed boxing talk going on in the MMA thread lately. Anyone who cares to dispute, watch the glorified sparring session that was Pacman vs Mosely, if you can stay awake for it. Now, onto business. My picks for 129:

    Gray Maynard def. Frankie Edgar
    Rampage Jackson def. Matt Hamill
    Roy Nelson def. Frank Mir
Stefan Struve def. the other guy
    Brain Stann def. Jorge Santiago
    Thiago Alves def. Rick Story

yeah i'll dispute - anybody who knows anything about boxing knew that was a rubbish fight n dont bother watching

gsp v shields - reigning champ so many title defenses p4p bla bla, shields undefeated 6 yrs bla bla - wank - turned that shit off after 2nd round - u get boring fights in both games.

styles make fights - helps if your opponent isnt completely shot n just looking for a quick buck - this is more of a problem in boxing - obviously

lightweight division is overflowing with quality at moment!
i think the ufc lightweights are behind few of the others to! edgar and maynard are good but rate pettis and henderson (wec) + melendez (strikeforce) all better! can't wait to see them unify them all.
they should have a night of champions or something - unify all the belts!

yea I thought it was funny... "some guy" eh? :P Alliance have amazing fighters, Browne, Davis, Cruz, Gustaffasson.

And some not so great ones, like Vera & Beltran.

maynard/edgar scrapped as they both were injured, that fight apparently happens in august or sept.

Pettis= fucked, he will need another two wins to keep himself busy/in line for a title shot.
