I dunno man, free agency only officially opens for business as of tomorrow morning (our time). I expect a lot of player movement and trades, especially with so many teams shedding payroll and getting prepped for the huge 2010 free agency market.

I think while you are right about what is essentially a big 5 now, there will be plenty of teams stepping up trying to outdo the rest.

I still think if LA lets Ariza and Odom walk, even with the addition of Artest they have regressed from last year.

Don't think they'll let Odom walk, I thought it was one or the other?

That's what i gathered too. I think if they keep Odom, they're going to be very strong for next season. I absolutely love Artest as a player, cause he'll free up the other players, he can play lock down defense and he's not a bad shooter as well.

I've always been a fan of multi-position non-superstar players, ie.

    Odom
    Boris Diaw
    Grant Hill (when healthy)
Scottie Pippen and Toni Kukoc (back in the day)
Jason Kidd (ok he isn't multi-position but did lead the Nets in rebounding one year which's good enough for my list)

(non-superstardom means no Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson, Wilt, Bird, Jordan, LeBron, Kobe)

Well if Jason Kidd doesn't make HOF I will be amazed and Scottie was one of the Top 50 of All time. I know what you are driving at though

Odom is still up in the air in terms of re-signing but LA looks to have the biggest shot at signing him.

Oh and as wished for earlier in this thread, the city of Dallas welcomes Shawn Marion to town (actually The Matrix probably fits quite well onto your multi faceted "non-superstar" type player list). Awesome news, now to ship Howard out of town...

    I love the offseason.

    ...and Mark Cuban

Marion has just been getting worse since he left the Suns. I dont think he will help the Mavs much.

Artest to LA is a good move... makes LA stronger with better defence.

Shaq should also help the cavs he has learnt how to play a second option role when he won a ring with the heat.

Agreed, but he does rely on playing with a true point guard which he hasn't really had since, what, Nash? Who has he had since - Mario Chalmers and Jose Calderon. Hmmm... While Kidd is declining also, he is still among the best pass first point guards in the game.

Marion will only be the 3rd or 4th option on offense in Dallas. All he needs to do is bring the D and be able to finish on the break or when Kidd throws up lobs.

Travis Outlaw - Airball on a dunk

    ... and even worse still...
    J J Redick - Airball on a layup

    and here come the pretzels...

i reckon we can get over them to see LA or Utah in the conference finals... (I don't mind either way as I love Steve Nash)

Utah just has to make LA's bench play. Tough ask from a team that lost 2 frontline players and probably didn't expect to beat the Nuggets in 6 :\

Cavs & Celtics game 3 7am Perth time tomorrow. Anyone know if ONE or ESPN are televising it? The foxtel guide online doesn't list actual teams just says NBA playoffs.

Wonder if he'll get that in NY next year?

I would'nt say the supporting cast are bad, but they need a legitimate all-star in his own right ala Scottie Pippen at the Bulls. Shaq can't dominate games like he used to and Antawn Jamison isn't at that level.

Spot on that's exactly whats missing. The Celtics have 3 or 4 excellent players versus Cavaliers with 1 Jordan-esque freak and a few decent players.

The Cavs' supporting cast are just so hot-and-cold imo.

Well-rounded teams such as Celts, Magic, even the Bucks to an extent (with a healthy Bogut) get my vote.

Likewise over west, Gasol and Duncan (when he makes his free throws) are as solid as they come. Suns, Jazz, Spurs... add them to the well-rounded list

That was bullshit. I hope the rest of the Cavs had fun watching LeBron play 5-on-1 for four quarters.
