The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself

last night went off. the rollers played an awesome set! funked me away! really refreshing to see more of a live drum n bass act than yet another dj. respect to dan/el hornet - wicked set althgough i wish you would have left meatball for the people who made the tune
    "tough at the tooooop"
i think the rollers must have tired everyone out because while friction slammed me i noticed everyone leaving. must have been because of sunday. still friction went mad and stamina, although i dont think he was the right mc for the job, pulled off some sweet lyrics.

    Had fun last night...

Jakes has been a personal favourite of mine for many years and haven't heard much of him in the past 4, so was great to see him live. He epitomises what a good mc should be: bubbly, chatty, doesn't go overboard, etc.

The EZ Rollers' set was fucking awesome, and the live vocals added something different and special to it. A great element. Can't comment too much of Friction and Stamina as I left shortly after they got on.

Sound system was a bit distorted and rumbly on the bottom end, but yay for the mixing desk and sound guy at the back of the club and the decent levels.

from what ez rollers ide heard i went expecting more jazzy sounds, and more breaky style beats. however thoroughly enjoyed the night.

my gosh....that was concievably the best weekend ever.

ez rollers were sick....that chick was sassy! stamina was also rockin. I woulda liked to have heard a bit more jazzy dnb that night, but once again the drum club darkification narrowed the variety of whoever plays there.

and sci fi ... oh man

it'll be some time before this weekend will be topped

yes, ez was good but was a bit under whelming. I'm just sick of every good act that plays at drum club being underwhelming. I thought this was true of aphrodite when he played recently, as well as ez.

Interesting comments guys. I have been a EZ Rollers fan since I first heard 'Beleive' and have collected mostly everything of theres since that day. If anything I was overwhelmed at their performance! Getting to hear Tough At The Top performed LIVE was simply amazing! JMJ's mixing in my opinion was fantastic and he kept the selection nice and varied.

This 'darkification' policy you speak of was most definently not in effect on Friday, until Frictions set anyway. Merlin and Gusto who played from 10-12 rinsed a very smooth selection mainly consisting of Defunked and Creative Source styled tunes. Dan Lucas and myself played mainly smooth stuff also, the hardest tune I dropped was 'Hydra' by Crossfire and 'Vault 3010' by Pendulum......and it got a big reaction from the crowd and got people on the floor.

Fair call if you didn't enjoy yourself at Aphrodite or EZ Rollers, but I'm not sure what brought your night down. Both gigs were rammed and had a great vibe! Sucks to be you

Im not saying I didnt have an awesome time at each of these events! I guess I'm not as familiar with each of these acts as you are. Gusto played good shit, I always like his stuff. I'm not saying I dint enjoy myself either. I just noticed a disparity between their sets ( abit darker) and the stuff I've heard from their CD's and other releases. I suppose they need to get the crowd fired up, and dark pumping shit is a good way of doing this. I'm just speaking from preference here - in my perfect world. I didnt get to drum club on friday until friction started, so I didnt catch most of the other sets before ez rollers came on, and I guess it's a credit to them that they can excel at both the darker stuff and the more jazzy liquid stuff. I just prefer the more jazzy liquid stuff.

    Ah thats cool
Friction was pretty insanely hard, especially at the start of his set.
I'd love to see EZ Rollers whizz through their jazzy back catalogue live too, tunes like Retro and Science Funktion but somehow I don't think it would be as dancefloor friendly as the funky disco stuff that JMJ was playing...

Science Funktion is one of my favourite tunes of all time. I got that cd "professor Tsungs art of Science Funktion" with a lot of aquasky and guardians of dalliance stuff on it about a year ago, still listen to it all the time. It was the science fnktion style of ez rollers that I was most hanging out for. still, its all good

Guardians of Dalliance seem to have disappeared. I have a few 12"s from them and their CD from 98/99 but then it went all quiet

I like to dissect rhythms. Anyone who can't hear emotion in a drum beat suffers from a lack of understanding of what's going on in dance music and they need to hear more.
