We flew with Jetstar to KL (stop over in Singapore), 45 min cab ride to KL domestic airport, then a Firefly flight to Koh Samui. It was a long trip, but ended up saving quite a bit of money compared to a more direct flight.

    Flying direct = $$$

Fly into Surat Thani on the mainland. Cheap regular ferries from there every few hours (or just go straight to Koh Tao).

Koh Samui does have nice resorts if money is no object, depends on budget really.

If you end up staying 2 weeks in that region, definitely check out Koh Phangan. Loved it a lot more than Samui, was heaps more laidback. And it's a short ferry trip too

Keep on eye out on deal website (spreets etc). I always see cheap resort deals in those sorts of places.

    In stress mode today!

Suddenly it appeared I'm supposed to be sorting out accommodation for about 12 people & received an email saying the apartment I booked in Croatia has been given to someone else now (yeah awesome thanks!).

Just booked the other one you suggested though & waiting on the confirmation.

Every holiday I always take on the role of organising everyone then hit a point where it's all too much & stress the fuck out! I haven't even finished sorting out what I need to for my April holiday & I'm freaking out about my September one. Ari is also helping sort shit out though & I just recruited someone else. When it comes down to it I guess last year we slept 9 people in a 1 bedroom apartment on 3 fold out couches for Exit & that was ok.

On another note... anyone know of joy places to stay in Paris?

I stayed at Hotel Le Boetie (spelling may be a bit off)

Was decently priced and a 2min walk from Champs Del Elysees (again spelling)

Old school hotel built in the 20's, only about 3 or 4 floors but across from a pub (score) and up the road from a supermarket. Could walk to Eiffel Tower, Arc Triomphe, Louvre, etc.

    thats so shit

looks like only appartment A is left at Villa Bubi. Sounds like they did a huge group booking. They better not have double booked us because i have paid the whole amount already. Hopefully you get that other place, then we can balcony hop!

Outlook will be releasing their own accommodation soon i think as well

    edit:

    looks good

The fact that they're now telling us that places are already booked out is I guess a bit promising that they wont double book.

If all else fails... there's always camping. The camp site isn't too bad really. There's proper toilets & showers & bathrooms with mirrors.

Really enjoyed your travel light post Tanya. If I didn't plan trips around through-hiking with lots of photography, I can't see why I wouldn't adopt your plan.

Thanks guys and girls I haven't always been a minimalist and I wasn't joking when i said that i packed 15 pairs of undies, 1 for just in case I had a follow through moment, lols...

We plan to come back in november this year and i hope to pick up yet another backpack, something smaller I hope. The one I have now doesn't quite fit me as well as it should.... I am too short but beggers cant be choosers when there are only 10 bags to choose from!

Thanks again guys I am proud of how good my writing is getting about subjects I believe in!

Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention that I went for a walk down Kohsan Road on the weekend, it was hilarious seeing all these people with these massive bags, i mean MASSIVE bags on their backs... poor kids. Hope they learn from their mistakes like I did

Nope I'll be back in Perth then.

Gahh!! Still trying to find a place in Croatia. The one I tried yesterday we must check in & out on a weekend (which doesn't suit us). Went for another today but apparently we must check in on a Saturday. Wah!

Price to send a suitcase full of winter shit home from Singapore = $1000.

WTF I could fly two people return for that much... anyone know of a decent freight company that doesn't require the sale of a kidney?
