How are you getting from NYC to Cuba? Pretty sure there isn't any commercial flights between U.S. and Cuba. Might be wrong though.

I hate cigars but would be tempted to bust one out in Cuba to see if they're all they're cracked up to be.

Can you top up your oyster card online or something? I was just gonna do it when I got to London. I still have £5 notes in my wallet from last year wooo. Need to find the charger for my UK phone but might just switch my aussie one to global roaming this time.

Geoff's bill wasn't anything extra on top of what he normally pays when he put it on roaming last year & he used his phone heaps over there. Gonna head down to Telstra this week to suss out what the deal is. I used my UK phone a bit over in Europe as well but I didn't have a UK to European power adapter to charge my phone once it died. Fail.

Kinda sucks as well when you're on a contract and you have to pay your Aussie phone bill anyway even if you're not using your phone. Sucks even more when you're on a stupidly expensive plan and your phone bill is $100 a month. Buying more UK phone credit on top of my normal phone bill might not end up being that much cheaper than just paying a bit extra on top of what I already pay per month I reckon.

    AHA!

been meaning to ask about this sort of stuff, i had a $70 phone call to the bank last time i was away (the bank actually paid me the $70 after some haggling) trying to sort out some stuff.

do not want to be in that $8 per minute situation again.

so do i just drop into a vodafone place and say "sign me up?" or what? :looks:

depends what card you have and what insurance they cover you with, there are heaps of different types...you should look it up on your banks website

also, I've had heaps of clients travel on their card insurance and make claims without any issues.

Some cards say you have to pay for 50% or all of the trip on it, so watch out for that.

We're visiting the site of the ancient city of Troy on the 24th this April, just realised the next day is Anzac Day and Anzac Cove is less than 30km from where we're staying. Anzac service on Anzac Day at Anzac Cove I guess.

My friend who is a travel agent just said to go to last minute and book as there were flights going stupid cheap. The options were qantas with stupid arrival times or virgin which had better arrival times for an extra $100.

Plus! I have been told by a friend who worked as a hostess for qantas to avoid them to LA.

Not much in Troy anymore, the ancient city has been built over several times. Just a big wooden statue of Sarah Jessica Parker. Make sure you get to Cannakale early for the ferry across to Gelibolu, it's non-stop craziness all night. Total chaos. You won't need accommodation, it'll become a mad all-nighter. Just make sure you have something booked for the days afterwards, regardless of which direction you're travelling.

Cheers. There's still a fair bit in Troy that I would like to see. Parts of the Troy VII site are thought to be most probably the site of Homer's Troy and I've read about it at length. I'll be checking out a fair bit of cool nerdy ancient historical sites throughout the Balkans and Med. Also can't wait to just cruise through the markets in Istanbul.
