"a phrase, something deep and of consequence, that defines me as a person."
nah we went through a travel agent and booked them late last year.
word to the uninitiated - qantas made us pay an additional $20 per person per flight to "guarantee" our seats would be together. despite buying the tickets at the same time and paying on the same credit card, apparently there's a risk of the seats not being allocated next to eachother. so we had to pay an extra $80 each to pick our seats. bit of a rip if you ask me.
let them eat cake...
lolwut? fuck that. my friend is at a qantas convention in sydney at the moment and she sent this in an email AFTER we booked:
"If anyone did end up going Qantas and are lucky enough to get seats on the A380 aircraft, make sure you select 71D or 80A or 80K for the inbound or outbound.
You can do this through the QF website and they are cheeky extra leg room seats. I saw them yesterday and they are PIMP"
So... if you are on that aircraft get those seats!
My boyfriend had a doctor's note for some strong meds he needed to take for flying anxiety - it was never checked in Japan. Best just get it in case.
Coming up for TLOY Perth:
Octave One (live)
Ben Sims
Robert Hood
It's $80 per sector, $160 it's for Perth-Asia-Europe/America for the exit rows.
Previously though the only way you could get an exit row was by luck at the check-in counter or by travelling with a baby. So it's good to have this service for people who are vertically superior.
Qantas are the only major carrier that I know of who charge $20 for regular seating...hope this doesn't become a trend.
does it cover all the same stuff a normal travel insurance policy does?
we got ours through QBE. was about $650 i think. then i looked online and realised NIB (my private health provider) offers travel insurance and gives members a 5% discount. could've saved $100. oh well. next time.
let them eat cake...
Yep, all the standard travel insurance particulars one gets from other providers. Saved me $400'ish last year so I was stoked!
We have the NIB CC that comes with travel insurance. Although we've never needed it just check the terms and conditions of the coverage that you would have got with the card or ask the bank for a copy of the cover terms. From memory it covers up to $5000 of valuables including cameras, jewellery etc, not much emergency cash (about $500), lost or stolen luggage they can give cash advances as well (but not enough to replace ninja Gucci dresses or Louis Vuitton suitcases) and accommodation for cancelled or delayed flights more than 24hrs. With our engagement/wedding rings and Nikon camera we had to pay a little extra on top. Also sports coverage like skiing, even hot air balooning isn't covered and you need to take extra coverage for that if you plan on doing anything outdoorsy. If you get stabbed in the teeth or break your leg in a mugging you will get hospital cover and a flight home when you're out of the coma.
Make sure you read the cover details if you don't plan on wearing Gucci or getting stabbed in the teeth, you should be fine.
Scratch that, it's better than I thought, I think it's $5000 maximum for one item maybe: http://www.nab.com.au/wps/wcm/connec...5?cid=76259760

Sorry, delayed response!
The partying was off the boat. At Hvar there is an amazing bar that is set up on the rocks and everyone gets a bit crazy as the sun goes down over the ocean. Then everyone heads in to town to party. There are a few other bars and nightclubs that are on the other islands that are good fun aswell. I think there may have been one or two places we stopped that were a bit quiet, but it was good to have a breather.
"Why would I shoot a guy then drive him to the hospital?? It defeats the purpose of shootin' him in the first place"

Depends on your budget and your interests really. Those places are pretty good "standard" European places to visit, with a variety of cultures too. Berlin, Paris and Venice are all quite pricey plus if you're on a fairly tight budget you might want to choose countries that border each other and grab a Eurail Pass (4 or 5 country) which can save you a bunch on travel between places. Start booking accom in places like London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam soon, as well.

It depends how much you drink champagne and eat caviar and buy gold diamond platinum emerald silk things. Really expensive then.

Anyone here got into Berhgain in Berlin?
Ask Liz, her and emma went last year.
So as you may know, I'm travelling to America in December for Christmas and NYE.
First stop is Vegas, and have planned a club crawl. I was wondering (mainly directed at girls) due to being winter, what exactly do girls where? I imagine Vegas would be full of skanky bitches in short dresses etc? Has anyone travelled to the US in this period? Also, I'm in NY for Christmas, am I going to need thermals?

It was interesting, Ho Chi Minh was way too busy for my liking but really enjoyed the cheap food & drink there. Lots of good history but when we went to the "White House of Saigon" (can't remember the real name) and War Remnants Museum it was like 35 degrees and soo humid. It was hard to maintain interested when I was melting in a puddle of myself. Good places included Rex Hotel (for the rooftop bar) the rooms were also quite nice, the bar was the main attraction though. Went to a nightclub called Apocalypse Now which played very cheesy house music haha. Cheap as drinks though!
Had some great steamboat, never sweat so much from food in my life...was delicious.
The Intercontinental Hotel in Vietnam was by far the nicest property we saw, had an awesome 'nightclub' which unfortunately shut at midnight and didn't have any dj's play there...could really have been a nice venue if they hosted some good artists!
Phan Thiet has a long way to go to become a real tourist destination, 6 hours from Ho Chi Minh going 50km/h on the bumpiest road ever. We were all very hungover as well which didn't help...the city was really mostly for locals, near the beach there were a lot of markets and restaurants but the service was pretty shocking...they were pretty rude to us and we were trying to buy shit off them, and we weren't even haggling (haggling didn't really seem to be something the people in these two places engaged in haha). Although the property we stayed at (Victoria Phan Thiet Resort Vietnam) was quite nice and the food was decent. Took about 10 minutes to get a beer when you were sitting around the pool though which was a pain in the ass. Hit up this place called Your Bar one night which had no one in it at the start, they had shisha though and incredibly cheap drinks. Got pretty sloppy. Some Canadian guy saw us doing Absinth shows and wanted in, he spewed twice before he made it outside the bar haha.
Apparently next year they will finish a new freeway which will make it only take 2 hours to get there from Ho Chi Minh, will be much more viable then. They really need an airport though!
Would have liked to have seen Nha Trang and Hoi An, but will have to do that next time!
Singapore was awesome...Altitude bar was sick!
Staying in a castle in Scotland..
Managed to pick a supposedly haunted one!
I know.
Won't stop me from scaring the shit out of other people though!
