DJ Fresh is so ‘hot right now’ and were bringing him down under for an amazing gig at Metro City this March!

    DJ Fresh

One of the originators of drum & bass, Fresh began his career as founding member of the supergroup Bad Company. In ‘98 when Fresh was still 19, the group released The Nine - a track that was to later be voted the best d & b tune of all time by D & B Arena. Not bad for a guy still in his teens!

After winning many awards with BC, including KMAG’s best album of 2000, he teamed up with Adam F in 2003 to found Breakbeat Kaos. The label quickly became a tastemaker, championing Pendulum’s game-changing album Hold Your Colour and playing host to Fresh’s critically acclaimed debut LP, Escape from Planet Monday.

But in the last 12 months, DJ Fresh has truly become a household name with the huge success of tracks like Gold Dust & Louder. With Louder notching up over 500,000 sales and being the first Number 1 for Fresh it also became the first EVER dubstep track to top the charts and feature as the soundtrack to the Lucozade advert.

Constantly pushing the boundaries of the d&b/dubstep crossover sound, FRESH/LIVE combines the technique and hysteria of his DJ sets with the energy of a live instrumental performance. Fresh has handpicked a fine selection of musicians to create a highly skilful unit that will delight crowds with their expertise.

    Messy MC

Messy by name, messy by nature.. Jay, otherwise known as ‘Messy’ to his friends and cohorts has been taking charge of microphones up and down the country for the last 5 years delivering thousands of bars of profound lyrics that have kept parties alive till the break of dawn. They do say hard work always pays off and in the case of Messy, this statement couldn’t be more true.

So far his efforts have seen him perform all over the globe at some of the biggest parties in the land with every A list DJ you can think of, and probably some you cant!

    High Maintenance

James Smith, aka High Maintenance, may appear a relative newcomer to the drum and bass world, but he did not need time to catch the attention of some of biggest names in the game. Shortly after releasing some digital tracks in 2009, this producer’s producer began to hear his tunes on John B’s podcasts; it wasn’t long before he was sought after by a number of respected drum and bass labels. In early 2011, High Maintenance opted to sign onto Shimon’s Audioporn Records and DisasZt’s Mainframe Recordings, kicking off with a tremendous remix of Ed Rush and Tali’s ‘Dark Days’, the lead track from Tali’s album, ‘Dark Days, High Nights’.

2011 was a breakthrough year for the young producer, collaborating with DisasZt on ‘Try Me Again’, taken from his ‘Shadow & Lightning LP’ on Mainframe Recordings, as well as releasing his debut single on Audioporn Records, ‘With You’ / ‘Nowhere’. High Maintenance’s reputation as a DJ also came to the forefront with blazing sets on D&B TV, Panda Drum and Bass YouTube, and Annie Nightingale’s BBC Radio 1 Show. Look out for more from the young producer on Audioporn and Mainframe in 2012, and catch him behind the decks all over Europe and abroad.

    The Upbeats

Since announcing their arrival on the drum n bass scene in 2004 – creating more of a shockwave than a mere splash – with their self-titled debut album, Wellington, producers The Upbeats have continued to forge an impressive reputation as both masters of their craft and the future of drum n bass.

Enjoying both critical and commercial success with their 2004 debut LP, The Upbeats have positioned themselves among the highest pantheons of the genre across the world, recording and releasing through influential imprints BC Presents, Ed Rush and Optical’s Virus Recordings, Renegade Hardware, Project51 and Project Human.

But what sets the partnership of Wellingtonians Jeremy Glenn and Dylan Jones apart from the myriad of drum n bass producers both in New Zealand and abroad – many of whom have extensive record-label pedigrees in their own right – is the unique, diverse and cutting-edge Upbeat style.

Producing music together for seven years, Glenn and Jones have crafted a sound that ranges between frenetic and energetic liquid funk, intensely moody and claustrophobic drum’n’bass, and soulful indulgences of elevation. The sheer diversity and inventiveness of their sound has paid dividends, as the Upbeats have been in demand the world over for their ability to traverse the eclectic tastes of dance music’s fandom.

    Tali

Tali is accredited with being the most successful female MC in Drum N Bass of all time. With three DnB Awards, a solo album, numerous singles and guest vocals under her belt, Tali has MC’d all around the world with many of the scenes heavyweights.

Reknown for her unique ability to sing and freestyle, Tali's reputation has grown due to her versatility, soaring voice and the positive connection she makes with the crowd.

    High Maintenance

Hailing from Dallas, TX., a city that has spawned such house music greats as Brett Johnson, JT Donaldson, Demarkus Lewis, and Lance Desardi, amongst others, the producing tandem of J. Caprice & 4peace, otherwise known as HIGH MAINTENANCE, are the next big thing out of Big D! In a city full of, and respected for it's deep house & minimal DJ's, High Maintenance has been makin' their presence felt with their signature funky, dirty, jackin' underground style of house music. Their high energy tag team sets are setting dance floors across the world on fire while their infectious clownin', lighthearted personas make them a crowd favourite.

With no signs of slowing down and a sound that continues to improve and mature with each release, the future looks very bright for the High Maintenance boys!

Since announcing their arrival on the drum n bass scene in 2004 – creating more of a shockwave than a mere splash – with their self-titled debut album, Wellington, producers The Upbeats have continued to forge an impressive reputation as both masters of their craft and the future of drum n bass.

The English producer's first No 1 last year was a dubstep track called Louder!

Can also confirm he said the above at innovation in the sun 2010, when he was being interviewed by DNB TV in front of us..

    He loves Perth metros.

    Seriously? What the fuck...
DJ Fresh: You are a fucking disgrace. Dont ever come back to Perth, you are not welcome here. That has got to be the worst fucking set i have ever heard. Did you think you were playing at The Deen or some shit? Dont ever fucking come back to this city.

Local boys, VOLTRON. You guys played the best set of the night. Well done.

Loaded Dice are known as a solid promotion brand for putting on gigs in Perth. But tonight i feel i could have gotten better value for money for the $50 i spent. Too much dubstep, and again its worth mentioning what a fucking disgrace DJ Fresh was. I have never been so angry at a DnB gig before.

Dissapointed I missed Voltron. Upbeats and Tali were top notch.

Wow Dj Fresh was just horrible. High Maintenance was ok but never laying down a solid groove.

Yeah like Kane said pretty dissapointing for a show so many were pumped for.

Even his mixing was fkn horrible.. The music was all over the place, one rock, one dubstep, one top 40. No dnb.

I thought the lineup had changed to knife party for a second. So disappointed!

I dissagree I saw him play NY day M E L B O U R N E in 2006? Or something? He was really good then... He was double dropping like a mad man. But times change, music styles change. Etc etc.

Can't comment on his recent performance as I didn't go. Sad to hear it was a weak set?

That tour he was doing that "Live" show (06/07 maybe?), which was actually pretty fucking sick. It's was awesome, killed it.

As for Friday I'm seriously not surprised he's taken his UK sets to top 40 bullshit these days, as he has had a number 1 single etc and probably a lot of mainstream sort of listeners attending his sets/shows there.

What I am surprised about from the reports of what he played is that he honestly thought that shit would fly overseas, either he doesn't care what people want to hear (basically dnb the way Fresh used to do it) or has his head so far up his jackty he thinks he's going to re-educate probably the most audiophile music Nazi's on the planet (dnb heads).

I stayed away because it doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize from what his sets have sounded like in the UK recently that there was a good chance it was going to be pretty fucking wack.

    Fresh? The. Milks. Gone. Bad.

    Agreed.
