    Default Fix WA?

Given a magic wand, what would you do to fix WA/Perth? Be aspirational/pie in the sky as you want or practical as you want. Hot topics are a northern city to service the mining boom, inner city development in Perth, transport, the new sports stadium or maybe you would like a genuine third political party? Better use of the waterfront? Shutting up all the mines and stopping all development? Exchange rate to tumble so Aussie $ plummets and we can attract tourists in reasonable numbers?

Perhaps you just want Paramount to open on Mondays?

What do you think would make Perth/WA a better place?

    Colin Barnett ousted as premier.

And don't let that O'Callaghan mug anywhere near Cabinet.

    All problems: solvered.

In all seriousness I'd like to see the following:
    - A return to 6 or 7am closing times at pubs/clubs
    - Legislation passed to prevent residents from complaining re already established entertainment precincts
    - Light rail and heavy rail linking the city/outer suburbs
    - No uranium mining
    - Leave the Ningaloo reef the fux
    Ck alone, cunce!
    - The city celebrating & embracing Aboriginal culture, with simple s
    Decorations r
That reflect seasonal changes in the SW region (of which there are six, I think)

Cut the northern half off at the 26th parallel and let it form a new state that can survive off mining and supplying solar and geothermal electricity to other states and territories.

Just better funding for education. Push education. Literacy and humanities need a major boost.

So many uneducated masses who think just because they earn more money moving dirt they are somehow entitled to more.

Police act over Irish backpackers behaving badly

LUKE ELIOT, The West AustralianMay 10, 2012, 10:13 am

Police want community groups to address concerns that a disproportionate number of overseas visitors, particularly Irish backpackers, are involved in drunken anti-social behaviour in Perth entertainment precincts.
News of the police effort came after the president of a local Gaelic football club distributed an email that specifically raised concerns regarding the behaviour of Irish people.
The email, which has been reported by Irish media, said police were "appalled" and "extremely unhappy" with behaviour in the precincts, adding local Gaelic Athletic Associations could expect to be visited by police in coming weeks.
Insp. Paul Steel said there were reports Irish visitors were involved in a disproportionate number of offences, however, they were "only one nationality in a number associated with the backpacker scene where further targeted activities are planned to increase awareness of local liquor licensing and criminal laws".
"It is clear that there are some significant differences in the policing of licensed premises in Australia to those in Ireland," Insp. Steel said. "In particular the liquor infringement and move on notices are not widely understood and the purpose of the community level engagement was to target education at an area where this crime prevention advice was deemed appropriate."
Yesterday, Gaelic Athletic Association (WA) president Robert O'Callaghan said the email had been distributed as a way of spreading the message among the community about the police concerns.
"A few bad eggs in any crowd could tarnish the reputation of everyone," Mr O'Callaghan said. "I encourage and support the police initiative to tackle this social issue in the wider community.
"The Gaelic Football and Hurling Association of WA are a family organisation with a thriving junior academy that would not condone any anti-social behaviour by any member or individual."
Business Improvement Group of Northbridge chairman Mike Keiller said the problem was not isolated to backpackers as there had been a rise in the number of overseas visitors who had travelled to Perth for work.
"I think it's a process of education," Mr Keiller said. "They are not used to the same restrictions and requirements we are required to adhere to to protect our licenses.
"They react with vigour sometimes but after a while they get the hang of it and you would like to think after they have been a permanent fixture for 12 to 18 months some of the ones here are educating the ones down the line
Mr Keiller said problems with overseas visitors were a "fairly typical tale" from Northbridge licensees. He said the problem was not isolated to Irish visitors but added: "They have proved to be more of a handful that your typical backpacker but with a bit of education and holding the line you are able to turn them around."
Insp. Steel said community engagement was a method police used to reduce crime.

    ^ Oath !!!!!

Mind you, the Sail is now my fav pub, for its craft beers are very reasonably priced, even if it is illegal to serve some of them by the pint due to high abv.

    $6.50 BrewDog Hardcore IPA, 6%+ abv, schooner=winning.

    A decent freeway
    A decent public transport system.
Actually teach people how to drive before giving them a license (especially merging)
    Less bogans / rev heads
Reality is for people who can't handle drugs.

Must have three years driving experience minimum before driving a V8
    Ban V8's
Massive investment in fixing/massively improving the interaction between indigenous and other Australians (pie in the sky and i have no idea how)
Big education push on accepting/welcoming/helping new immigrants/refugees
Focus more on social outcomes than monetary outcomes
The end to the urban sprawl - infill of existing suburbs
Speeding up of train/light rail/bus upgrade
Upgrade NIB stadium to have 32-35,000 capacity for rectangular sports and stage rugby, soccer etc internationals there regularly
    Really good concert venue
Permanently relax street drinking laws in selected areas (police to target those actually misbehaving as opposed to everyone)
    Less confrontational policing
Education to remove/reduce tryhard MMA culture

It'll never happen, but I would like to see the WA Blind association merge with Vision Australia.

The latter actually has a clue about employment services, it doesn't just palm off its clients to service providers like Workability.

Good call. Far more holistic approach to education. I think an extra hour in the school day where the focus is on physical wellbeing. Teach kids what foods are good for them, more exercise (not necessarily competitive) to encourage movement. Stuff about self esteem, self image, bullying, growing up etc.
