I use a digital, wouldn't know all the slr terms, i confess im not that technical. I tweaked the amount of blue balance in that sunset pic, just to give it that purple effect.

    is that cheating?

Not at all. You think employees at the lab don't colour-correct or modify (to a small degree) colour/white balance to their taste when processing people's film?

Adjustments in Photoshop are part & parcel of 'digital processing' nowadays, particularly when you're shooting in RAW format. Which reminds me I need to find some decent RAW conversion software... Canon's bundled software blows

haha but most dont because theyre slack fuckers that couldnt be arsed, theyd rather wrap a piece of paper round the print saying 'too blurred' as if to say 'your shot sucks dude' :P

black and white is a good effect that often comes as standard with a lot of digicameras.

They're hardly black & white though, unfortunately. All the camera does is convert the .jpeg to greyscale, then back to RGB. It's just a 'greyscale' photo. You end up with limited dynamic range in the tones of the photo and not much contrast.

If you have a digital camera that shoots 'b&w' in RAW mode, then you'll have a pretty good reproduction of true b&w. Otherwise, the best way to get b&w is convert the image(s) yourself in Photoshop by means of adjusting levels, curves, hue/saturation, brightness/contrast and using the channel mixer. You've then got complete control over the image. The idea is to get the darkest areas black, and the lightest areas white (or as close to) ... not grey like in that sky shot.

Shame you didn't have a tripod... could have gotten all the lights in focus. The purple in the sky looks dope though

Yup, it's cropped. My lens has a wide angle of 28mm so it lends itself well to panoramic-like shots. Just overshoot your subject (top and bottom) and crop, leaving the image at a ratio of 3:1.

I just picked up a print a mate did for me that is 1.5m long and 0.5m in height. At that size it's blurry close up, but from 5-6 feet away it looks amazing. Now all I have to do it save $300 to frame the fucker

    Dope photos Tension...

Silhouettes with morning sun are neat. Got a couple of ideas myself, but haven't had the time/chance to get up early and see them through...

That wave photo is stunning. I hope someone hurries up and makes a waterproof housing for the 300D. I want to do some reef shots.

i dont like postcard landscapes any more, a large part of them seem to overdone and cliched, im not talking spefically in this thread but genrally in peoples work I see, I don’t happen to like several photo in this thread. Its something i did when i first started taking photos. i have more respect for people work with something original which is becoming increasingly hard. An example is shown when they work with a subject incorporated it with other things/factors, not just point and click at something pretty and bump up the resolution. But I guess its whatever floats your boat, most average joes love landscape photos I try to avoid doing it but occasionally you come across a nice landscape shot., which makes me smile

I know what you're saying. You said it yourself - it's getting harder and harder to be 'original' in photography and come up with completely unique ideas. Nearly everything has been done, or shot or made to seem cliche... but even so, every photographer has their own take/view on a subject, whether it's been 'done before' or not. They may like to capture something for themselves, rather than having someone else capture it for them or viewing someone elses interpretation of it. That's how I feel anyways.

It seems most of us posting in here prefer (at least for the moment) to capture their surroundings at any given time. This is a phase I'm going through currently. Even though many subjects may get shot every single day/week/year ... no two images will be the same due to lighting, season, angle, etc. etc.

    Just my thoughts...
