Format: B have been developing their craft in the back streets & techno
clubs of Berlin and Erfurt since the early 1990s. Biding their time and
accumulating the knowledge in becoming true aural innovators.

Format: B have created a new wave of techno. Gone are the clichs of old
and in with the new rifts and melodies to appeal to the techno kids of now.
At the forefront of new school of German techno, their distinctive style has
been grooving away dance floors for years.

Alex Smoke is a Scottish talent making electronic records that blur together
European minimalism, pop structures and emotional strings and pads.
He has released two full length albums, Incommunicado and 'Paradolia'
[Soma Records] and a slew of singles and remixes

His debut release Random As came out in January 2002, but Smoke has
always been immersed in music with classical training in cello and piano.

Smokes own productions are often described as moody, a reputation he
doesnt shy away from. His debut on Soma was the euphoric Chica Wappa,
described by Smoke as undoubtedly the most optimistic track I'll ever write.
My music will never be this upbeat again.

Smoke performs live and DJs, and his agenda as a spinner is perhaps well
represented by Sci-Fi-Hi-Fi Vol. 3 from 2006. His debut DJ mix combined a
fascination with dub techno, classic Detroit and new European minimal techno.
His Live shows are awe-inspiring epic techno sagas.

Smoke is going to tear Habitat apart !!!

I heard Alex Smoke was getting better reviews than Format B over east... but from what I heard of Format B, he was smashing it over Alex Smoke IMO.

agreed .. although from a mix i downloaded for smoke a few weeks ago, i wasnt really expecting much anyway.

format:b were awesome .. although i feel like they played one big tune after the other, and there was never any real break .. it was almost too much for my feet with all the stomping i was compelled to do

I dunno hey - Smoke was definitely less dancefloor friendly, but there were some off the hook noises coming out of the speakers when he was up. Format:b were great fun, and I had a huge dance to them, but by the end it was all beginning to sound a bit same same. I could have listened to smoke for another hour easily.
